was a 320efi and alpha ss one of them?

My Minx originally had the 320 Efi.

SS drive was not std. equipment........

don't even think of using a round ear prop on a Minx, with an SS drive...

The Minx runs pretty flat as it is, using an SS drive limits the trim ability to get the nose up before losing bite. I had a 23 Mirage and a 22 Turbo to play with, the 23 labbed clever from my 18 was the best, but again, no trimability due to shortness of drive length on that hull. I picked up ZERO speed increase with the SS drive on my Minx. The hull had a strange buzzing sound/feel, with the round ear props, that I attribute to propwash off the raised drive itself. I picked up 6-7 mph with the same drive, and same labbed 23 clever on my 18 however....

sell or swap your SS drive with Smokediver before he carves his good hull all to hell.....

you dont have that efi manifold and stuff yet do ya????
Jamie, I bet he does, but it has a hole in the manifold from running in saltwater. It was a yacht tender.

Also, Ken (Minx guy) had an SS on his Minx, but only to reduce the draft of the boat for boating where he kept it. It would be interesting to get his views also.

No, I gave all the Efi stuff to a guy on Oso that has a 30 Sonic with twin 320 Efi's that he's spent a couple years trying to get running right. Last I heard, he finally gave up and put some aftermarket engines in it. I read somewhere that the injectors were a stock Porche part.

When Ken got his Minx it had the SS on it but the original drive was an Alpha which is back on it now. Not sure but I think the Minx may run about the same as a 22 with cleaver, to much stern lift. Round ears to do a better job, my switch from a 23 cleaver to a 23 Turbo 4 blade round ear gave better speed with less trim and great handling. I found the cleaver very twitchy at mid speeds, I hated the handling.

According to the 1987 Donzi sales brochure, the only two engines were the 270 MAG and the 320 EFI. The brochure had no info on drives. When I purchased my Minx it had an Alpha on it. As George has stated, I purchased an SS for it strictly draft issues. I saw absolutely no increase in top end. None, zero, zip, nada. On both drives I ran the stock 23 cleaver. What I did enjoy was the way the SS shifted, like butter. No clunks at all. And it looked cool. But seeing how I never trailer my boat, that was a moot point. Ken

I have an original 1987 price sheet that lists the 350 Mercruiser Magnum and the 320 Mercruiser F.I. as the two engine options.
