Looking at a 2000 28ZX would like to know if there is a difference, and if so how much, between the hull of a 2000 28zx and a 2001 28zx an newer. I thought i read there was a change in hulls from 2001 an newer but not sure and would like to know if it's that big of a deal.

I used to own a 2000 28ZX great boat you will love it...as far as hull changes I am not a expert on the 28ZX hull changes but I believe there was NOT a change in the hull after 2000 the changes came before 2000. If ya want a for sure answer contact Shangied Again (Frank Civitano) on this boad he knows all about Donzi's and the hull changes. Good luck :) :)

I think there was a change in 2001 for the better. You can tell when you tap the sides between the 2000 and 2001 the 01 seems to be more solid. Not certain if structure issues but I would assume so since is was changed so early in the new hull design.

There is a thread I am gonna say a couple of months ago in which a guy was considering buying between two different 2000 28ZXs.
He submitted pictures......and the board took an opinion poll on which one he should purchase.

Franks comments were that early in model year 2000 the 28ZX hull was changed.....for the better, and his vote was for the newer hull, a blue one as I remember.

I paid attention because my 2000 28ZX was made in February 2000, and is the newer design hull. I think the word on the street that 2001 hulls were improved is correct, in that ALL 2001s were the new hull.

If the deal is good enough, I bet you will still be very happy with a pre-2000 type 2 hull 28ZX !

The early 2000 28ZX had the older bottom and most of the weight was distributed in the rear of the boat, this wasn't a problem with the single engine boats boat with twins she was a little squirley. When the Scorpions came out the boat was a handfull at 75+ you had to know how to handle her, When Donzi came out with the 26ZX in 1999 the boat was an instant hit she handled well and was one of the best single engine package boats around. They decided to design the 28ZX the same as the 26ZX adding more nose to the 26ZX both boats had the same beam and cockpits, The 28ZX with twins became the most wanted boat and then got the best performance boat award from powerboat magazine.
My nephew has a 1998 Donzi 28ZX she is a good boat and runs great, but the newer models are from 2000 to 2007 are designed much better.
This is what you will notice:
The newer 28 ZX has a squared wind screen, not round, the dash is set up is larger with a sliding door not a flip door, the rear pad is much bigger on the newer models, the cabin has more of a modern design without the pastel colors like the older models and if you look down the hood you will see the new models are more squared to a point the the older that are more to a point and appear narrow. the vents are different and the steps on the bottom have been re designed.

Thanks Frank !

Always a pleasure to pick your brain for every last detail on these boats.

Hope you are feeling better lately, and business has been good.

Cheers,
Steve

So is it that prior to 2000 they had the older hull, or did they switch in the middle of the 2000 production (some were old and some new), or that 2001 and newer are the new?

All I know for sure is that they had switched over to the newer type 2 hulls by February 2000 [when my hull was built]. My hull is 28ZX #37.
So considering the next model year hulls start being build by the end of each summer, it would appear they made at least the last six months of model year 2000 28ZXs with the new hull type.
I wouldn't let a type "1" 28ZX hull discourage you from buying. All these boats are a good time.
