I have the motor out of my 22 and was looking to take advantage of the situation and spruce up the engine compartment

namely I was going to install polished checkerplate aluminum on the pads beside the motor

has anyone done this or warn against starting this as a little project? :)

regards

Shea do a search quite a few of the guys have done the diamond plate bling to the engine hole, it does look really nice. Many have used the plastic with the thin polished aluminum coating.

its super easy while the engine is out

I woulfn't even think about it with the motor in- I've gotten stuck enough times just trying to get a screwdriver that I dropped let alone actually wanting to be down there:)

Now if you paint the nasty old 'glass w/white Bilgekote, it'd look extra nice!!!:)

:eek!: Exactly what George suggested....clean the bilge first...let it dry or wipe it down...then get a Palm Sander and Sand down the rough spots...go get a Quart of Interlux BilgKote... about $20 or less and use a brush or roller...I used both and get that sucker "Sanitary"....

Then do the Side Walls of the Hull...then remove the sound insulation on the BulkHead and do the Diamond Plate up there... once its white...you will never go back!

Good Luck Shea...

I prefer the fiberglass diamond plate. It is MUCH lighter, MUCH easier to work with and will not tarnish or corrode.

Farco Plastics there on Hwy 19 should have it in various colors. I know the Farco in Orlando has it. Farco is also your source for Plexiglass.

Doc has is right on...  You can purchase aluminum diamond plate from most metal shops. Its available as thin as a credit card and is very easy to use. The key is to make a template w/ exact dimensions for easy installation. I did my entire eng compartment for under $300.00. The diamond plate is easy to maintain if u keep it clean, wiped down and waxed. A little work and attention to detail goes along way.
