Can we clarify:
What is hook?
Where is it?
Is it good or bad?
How can it be removed?
Which Donzis have it and which don't?
Which Donzis should have it and which shouldn't have it?
Does X-factor have an impact?
Does surface piercing drive have an impact?
Do counter-rotating props have an impact?

Thanks for your ideas,

Jimmy

Hook: a portion of the flat section or sections hull is raised upward where as Rocker a portion pushed downward. 16's have a built hook in between the chine and the first strake, Blackhawks have a built in rocker built into a fairly large section aft. You usually can eye ball the bottom and see either, you can also pull a string taught to show up the smaller areas. Do a search Gcarter fixed the hooked sections on his Minx.

Can we clarify:
What is hook? The area of the hull that extends back down into the water.
Where is it? At the back 18"-24" of the 16 footer only
Is it good or bad? Bad for high speed craft unless the area is OUT of the water while underway (as is the 16's case)How can it be removed? Sanding it out and then re-inforcing the hull once again to make up for the loss of rigidity
Which Donzis have it and which don't? The 16 unless you have a boat that has been hanging off the back of something and is unsupported
Which Donzis should have it and which shouldn't have it? The 16 as it help low speed planing and in general, skiing and nowadays, tubing
Does X-factor have an impact? X-dimension is a different animal, the hull has the hook and that particular problem,d rive placement is a different issue .
Does surface piercing drive have an impact? No
Do counter-rotating props have an impact? No
Thanks for your ideas,
Jimmy

Hope this helps, the X-dim and props etc are still on this "hull" with hook. If the hook ( running surface) is out of the water while running at speed, then it is out of the game, If it is still in contact with the water, then you are scrubbing speed and created a nose down attitude. As you can see, props will do whatever, as will horsepower, but if the hull surface affected by this is still in the water, you still have a problem.

The 16 DONZI only has the hook on the outside of the second strake to the chines. When running "faster" that portion of the boat is NOT in the water and in contact with the surface.

Only a very few Donzis had hook designed into them. When it's on purpose, it looks like a partially deployed trim tab at the chine.
However, All the Minxs I've laid eyes on and a few 22(mainly in the mid 80's) have inadvertant hooks resulting from issues with layup, temp, time, bunks, rollers, etc. ???
who knows really.
Here's a couple of threads;

Also some results;

I hope this helps.
