What should the WOT RPM be for my 454 Carb motor? Forgive me in advance...I'm a previous outboard guy with my first big block.

How long can you run WOT.

4,600-4,800 Some guys spin them a bit faster but don't seem to gain anything.

Is it stock?

If so it still depends on the year and is the 454 a 7.4L Merc, or 454 Mag? I think the Mag, which has heavier duty internals, is rated at 5100 or so and the 7.4L is a few hundred less

How long at WOT? I don't know but you need to keep an eye on oil temp - you could exceed your oil temp limits fairly quick (few minutes).

Sofa - type of Donzi? ZX, Classic, Hornet, X-18, etc. It really does matter when your talking about props. Also, drive all the way in is going to be less RPMs (4000) As you trim the boat out and get the boat loose from the water, speed and RPMs will increase. I'd bet your prety close to the 4800 you should be at. Maybe a little more room there if you want to run 1" less pitch on the prop, but it sounds like your set-up correctly? If you own a 22' Classic, the Mirage is a boat anchor on that hull. Unless your talking about the Mirage Plus which works well. The Turbo1 is another great prop for the 22 Classic.

What boat are you running? If a 22 Classic you definitiely shouldn't run it WOT with the drive all the way in. Trim it out to get the bow up and watch your speed and RPM increase drastically.

Also, even if you trimmed it out, I bet you would be better with a little less pitch. You should prop it for RPMS closer to 5 grand with it trimmed properly and the tabs fully up

Dog, It's a 22 classic, and I think it is a tad over propped but so fast :)

Not trying to be rude but maybe your tach is bad or you are not so fast? Is 4000 RPM the max? With a 25 inch prop and 4000 RPM you really aren't so fast - with Bravo 1 and 1.5 gear ratio that calculates to 58 mph GPS considering a generous 8% slip factor. If you have the rare for a 22C 1.36 Bravo then it is still only 64 at 4000 RPM. Or OMC @ 1.43 ratio that's 61 theoretical at 4G.

Now 60 is fast, but it is not so fast....

Thanks for the input guys. It's a 1996 22 Classic with a 454 Mag, Bravo I outdrive but I'm not certain of the ratio. My guess would be the standard.

I haven't really even run the boat that hard. I installed a drive shower and a new 14.25x23 Turbo I prop yesterday and we ran it in the evening. I thought the boat handled well with the Mirage 23P but the Turbo I is definitely the ticket.

A 14.25x25 Thinned and labbed turbo I could be in my future:yes:  I've always been a believer that some of the best speed gains are in the prop.

I'll be selling my 14.5x23P Mirage
