Previous owner repowered the boat in '89 and we assume put this carb on it at the time. He sprayed a coat of paint on it to make it look good, I guess.
We had idle problems this weekend, black smoke, gas pouring in the bowls, etc. running rough, hard start.
We are not ace mechanics and need some help. We removed it and cleaned the old paint off in preparation for a rebuild. In looking up info online for a rebuild kit for this carb (Holley, List #4777-3), we don't find anything that indicates it's a marine carb. Anyone out there know and if it's not a marine grade, is that a problem?

That should be a 650cfm double pump, approx. 25 years old. I'd say you have a blown primary power valve, at the very least. A new Barry Grant marine carb should fix the problem...

THanks for your reply. Are you saying this carb is not worth rebuilding?
Do you think it is actually a marine carb?

It is absolutely NOT a marine carb...

and, no, I wouldn't spend another dime on it.

That's what we were afraid of.
Thanks- I'll look into the BG carbs.

You need a BG # 1282010EM

you also need their specific line kit, a Holley line kit won't work on BG carb's...

JUst checked- the Demon carbs are pricey. Where's the best place/price to get them?
Since the first domino has been hit..how about an intake manifold....is a new one in order as well?

Marine carbs have the tell tail elbows from the bowl vents that point back into the throat of the carb. You have a car carb since it doesn't have these elbow tubes. If your boat burns up and you have a car carb, its a basis for denile of insurance claim. The Holley 4160 marine 600 CFM should be a bolt on replacement. Around $300. You probably don't need the 650 CMF 4160.
You didn't metion what engine you had.

The engine is a SBC 350. We aren't looking for speed, (I know that's blasphemy around here), we want reliability.
