I'm a quart low and I don't know what the previous owner used. I called him and he said his mechanic used the Merc recommended oil. Is the Merc recommended oil for a '99 454mag mpi 15-40 dino? Also I will do a change myself in a few months (syn). What is the easiest way, through the dipstick? and what is the recommended apparatus for pumping out 7 quarts? I think I remember reading a thread on it so if someone can post alink that would be great...mmmkkkk.

TY in advance

Better off changing your oil now so you have a starting point as far as how long since the last change and knowing what you have for type of oil. I dont always trust what others say or remember.

Suggest that you run the boat up to temp so the oil gets good and warm than extract via the dipstick tube. I have used the "oilboy" with good results but it is time consuming.

On the plus side it does not make a mess!

Ok . I will change to synthetic on Thursday. Is the Oilboy the preferred pump?

Take a good look at your oil pan and drain plug, there might be a drain hose already installed. There was on mine.

TY for the advice Foster. If there is one i guess it drains out the transom plug. Will check it out.

I can't see my oil pan or drain line if there is one connected. If I take out the square transom plug would it be "hardlined" to it?

Sorry for the dumb ?

Also my oil filter is nicely located on top (napa 1086 gold). I remember someone said it took a napa 1060? I hope there is only one filter lol.

MadPoodle, I just did a head stand in my bilge and NO drain hose so I'm getting the Tempo Oil Boy and mobile 1 20-50 or prolly Mobile 2 by now lol. I aint paying 3 times the price for Vtwin as I know dat raquet. I thought wix made the Napa filter no? Whatchya recommend for oil filter and i have a napa water filter, I remember seeing some neato contraption white in color with metal bowl. If u can post the 411 I would be more than grateful. I like oil filters with 10 micron capabilites unles you recommend differently. I use the K&N on my POS Hardly.

I ordered everything on line lastnight including a few fancy chrome collasible drink holders :) The only thing i didn't get was the oil filter. Prolly leaning towards the Mobile 1 302. Wonder if i can p/u at Walmart with my Mobile 1.
The Baldwin filters seem much harder to find.

TY all for the help
