This is my first post, but have been using this forum as a guide!I have just completed my sweet sixteen project. New transom and stringers. 350 sbc with Edelbrock RPM heads, air gap rpm intake, 232 degree @.050 cam .512 lift, 750 holley vac carb, GLM alum. manifolds 4" out the back. Running an alpha gen 2, 1.32 ratio turning 23" stelleto wheel @ 4000rpm. Was wondering if any of the experts think I could pull 5000 rpm with 20" turbo prop?

I know how to find out, put it on and run it.
I think that you might be better of with a 19" pitch, but testing will tell.
I think that your cam selection could be a little aggresive, but that is why I am suggesting
a 19" pitch. How high an rpm do you want to spin the engine?
The following thread illustrates the value of testing.

Jamie did a very good job of illustrating to the registry what actual prop testing can produce. Most of us can get you close to where you need to be with prop selection, but there is no substitute for some actual seat time to figure it all out.
Your engine sounds like a 5,800 rpm screamer. Do you have some pictures that you can post?

Propping is not a sience it is and will always remain a mystery, even to like boat may require different props to get it right. I think like Don try a 19", the normal rule of thumb is 200 RPM per inch that holds true to a point. Torque rules with boats, my SB stroker in my 22 went from 63 with 21" 3 blade Mirage to close to 66 by going to a 23" 4 blade, the RPMs went from 5500 to 5000. I feel you will get your highest numbers propping it to a few hundred RPM above your max torque. Your target of 5K will get you very close to where you want to be, you probably will go through a bunch of various props to get the best top speed.

Unlike Jamie I would go for Hydrsulic steering besides SS are rare and not strong, when they com apart you may not be able to replace parts. Sticking my neck out, the deeper drive handles better in the rough water. Since I have driven the same boat the same day swapping out a standard drive for a shortie Imco. The handling was better with the deeper drive. However the shortie was almost 7 mph faster. Also remember the Imco is a sleeker drive and shorter ten the Alpha SS. My question if the Alpha SS was so good why did they stop making it? Same question I have with the Blackhawk?

I thought I would let all know my 16 prop test resaults. Using 1.32 gears turned stilleto 23" @ 4000rpm, stability good handled well needed more rpm. QSS 17" @ 5400+ , never got to stretch any more rpm insecure feeling in my pants. Mirage Plus 21"@ 4200, thats as fast as this guy is going to spin this wheel. boat got very light in the rear end, hang on! laser 19" @ 5400, a great mid range cruiser and excelleration very good. Boat a little wiggley @ 4800, hammer down and a little on the up button 5400 and weeeee!
