I'm getting ready to order a new 07 22 c. I would like to have the stainless windshield that came on the older boats and the newer ones have the plexi glass windshields. Do the new hulls have the groove the windshield fits in or is it flush?
Thanks

Yes they have the exact same mounting flange.
The trick is to find a stainless windshield......

I had a stainless one now i have the new kind.. i like the new one but the only thing that sucks is the new kind is not as strong , ie when you grab it to get up on the deck at trailer time i miss the stainless one...

I always have the option of building one.

Ohhh RTSE can you measure the width of the channel for me? And the length...Ahahah, just another reason to call and bug him.

I prefer the SS design...

personally, I think the newer one looks cheesy, and cheap...

Yeah the SS had more to it,, and so did the vents but they made those cheap too.... :umbrella:

I know a guy that has one. He wanted a $1000.00 for it complete.
Do you want me to see if he still has it?

No but the new ones are uglier and cheesy.

The only problem with the plexi ones, other than being cheesy, is they break. How many times have you seen a Donzi with a cracked or broken plexi shield whether free or stainless enclosed, I have seen many over the years. The stainless must offer some more protection. The newer ones look a little sturdier tho.

There are basically 4 pieces and profiles used in the older 22 Classic windshields.

1) Flat stainless steel plate, bottom edge on the front and sides. An easy fabrication.

2) L-angle stainless steel, corners, doubled up inside and outside. Shouldn't be too hard to fab. Welded studs hold the two together.

3) C-channel stainless steel for top rails. If you can find the profile your done. The top rail is bent to a large radius curve.

4) Cast upper rail corners. These appear to be cast steel pieces that are then chrome plated. I say make-em out of billet stainless instead.

That's it. The plexi is easy, weatherstrip is easy, polishing is easy. I think #3 would be the hardest but then again the c-channel may be a common profile in the marine industry.
