Debbie and I were taking a back way home from Apopka, and I took a wrong turn. I knew it was a dead end road, (I had made the same wrong turn before), but I wondered what was up that way, so we went on. It came to a county park called Kelly Park. It has a spring called Rock Spring there. It was such a cool place. I knew Debbie Davis would love that stuff. We walked around for a while. She said she saw an arrowhead on the bottom near the caves. She wants to go back now and go swimming. :)

Cuda, one of my brother's use to live off Rock Springs Road, right on the way to that park.

That is a great spring. Been there several times.
A few years ago it became contaminated....I guess too many people were peeing in it:) and they closed it for awhile.
I'm glad to see it's back open.

WOW! Cuda, thanks for that cool, refreshing, midsummer tip. Not the perfect location for a Donzi Rendevous, but DEFINATELY one for my family, when they come in to town next month. Perfect! And a LOT closer than driving all the way over to Itchetucknee Springs from here.
Also, like Silver Glenn Springs, the water is the same temp all year 'round. So if you want to WARM UP in the winter and still be in the water, this would be the place. Aye Candy will probably want to move it to her backyard. Looks beautiful!

I just noticed I put this thread in the wrong section. :) I meant to put it in Whatever you want to talk about.

Jim, I had gone through that area before, and wondered why there were places there that rent innertubes. I asked Debbie, and she said, "Well, we're on Rock Springs Road". And right then it when I made the wrong turn and ended up at the park. :)

Cuda,
This is the PERFECT place for this thread. I noticed it right away, here. I might have missed it anywhere else. What better place to put a place to go than in this Forum? This is about going places. Don't move it.

Haven't been to Rock Springs since my daughter grew up; she's 33 now. I've been going there since the 50s. That spring, along with Sanlando Springs (now a housing development called The Springs) were great places to go as a kid. Many fond memories of those places:)

Thanks Joe great shots, those caves can be spooky and cause sink holes. I watched a special awhile back about just how honey combed Fla is with the under ground streams/caves. They had footage of divers swiming quite a ways under one of the towns.

It happens but it's unusual.
The fast moving clear water doesn't have enough food in it.

They don't like cold water, or all the human activity.

Well, TG for small favors.

Really beautiful. Like an oasis.

Suppose to be almost 80 up here this weekend. Lots of Donzi time hopefully. Have a whole winter to make up for..

Again, sorry for bringing up gaters... Great weekend everyone!

Sometimes the best things come from wrong turns...

We drove near there today, and we saw a sign saying the park was open, but no swimming. We wondered why. When we got home we saw on the news a guy was attacked by a gator yesterday. He was bit on the head, but kicked the gator off him and escaped with minor injuries, 31 stitches to his dome I think. They are hunting down the gator. So much for them staying out of the springs. :(
