I was going to add this to the excellent 5lb Extinguisher thread but did not want muck up that thread.
For those of you that can not or do not want for one reason or another want to mount a fixed fire system what has been recommended BIA is to add a "Fire Port". A fire port is just a hole cut in behind the back seat cushion, it is covered by a piece of fiber glass mounted with just one screw at the top so it can be pushed aside easily. In the event of fire you push it aside and place the nozzle of the extinguisher against the hole, lifting the hatch is very dangerous as it may add enough extra air for an explosion. Fire ports only work well with CO2 as it will fill the compartment with the gas, dry chemical type extinguishers need to be directed at the fire.

wouldn't sticking the fire extinquisher in the vent on the deck do the same thing?

Sure would if you made a decent adaptor, but then again part of the idea is to be able to be low and back a little from thr source and not be above or in the line of fire if the hatch if it BLOWS!
