Hey Gang!

We're just around the corner for a Groovy Time! Seems like we will have a bunch of new blood this year! Always great to meet new Donzi friends, isn't it!

REMINDER: rooms are blocked until September 8th. After that they are released and up for grabs. SO.... book your rooms ASAP. If anyone is having trouble call me - (941) 387-5737.

Also, bad news from the sponsorship front - Mercury/MerCruiser cannot sponsor this year!! They say that all budgets are frozen (??). That really puts a damper on the event as they were the major sponsor and without their funds we will have to forego some stuff. But I am working hard on new sponsors and will try to make it so that no one notices!

Hope all are well and can't wait to see you soon.

I have only 3 checks in hand so far: Carabelli, Russell, and Jefe Reid. Hope to be getting more soon - if not I will need to cancel the event and consider it a NO SHOW!! May that never happen!

Budmann
07-21-2006, 07:45 PM
My check is in the mail tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am soooo sorry I didn't mail it sooner. We cannot have a "NO SHOW"!!!

Last time I checked, Donzi's were the elite!!! Do you mean to tell me that we can afford a Donzi but not the 350.00 it takes to get them together??

Gina talked to Mikey yesterday to see what was going on Saturday morning of the Rally. Mikey said the Photo shoot is on. :yippie: :yippie: :yippie:  :hyper: . He told Gina he has only received 8 registrations so far. He has'nt been able to get the T-Shirts ordered due to the fact that the registration fees are coming in slow. There is only 2 months left before the Rally and it takes time and money to put this event together. So lets get our checks & registration forms in if you have not already. Mikey works really hard to put the event together and it is an AWESOME weekend. Lets not let the Hometown Rally be a no show no go. Thanks Mike Miller for all you do. Jim

WOW! All great ideas guys! Thanks for the help and understanding. What's wrong with a cash bar??? Anything? Or ... what about no bar and you just make your drinks at your boats and bring 'em to the pool. Nah - there's nothing like a daquiri right there from the pool bar!

I'm leaning towards a cash bar. We'll see - maybe another vendor will come out the woodwork and save the day!

Anyway.... here is who I have registered and paid as of today (8/16/06):
Bud Staples and Jodi Myers
Jim & Gina Collins
Jeff Reid & Renee Prause
Randy & Barbara Carabelli
Mike & Lori Russell
Charles & Laurie Jackson
Peter & Nancy Jackson (newbies!!!)
Jim and Janice Haas
Mark Laszlo

Many more say they are coming and I am sure they. BUT... I have to order shirts and bags in 2 weeks and I will order only the amount I need. So those of you who show up and pay there I can't guarantee we will have shirts and bags for you. Or, for that matter, enough food! I of course will adjust you entry fee accordingly.

Nevertheless, we are going to party!!!!!!

Bring your '70s outfits for Saturday night! We are having awards and prizes for the best outfits!!

GROOVE ON!

I put my vote in for cash bar. Makes it simple and easy.

I KNOW the 8 or 10 of us that have already registered are going to have an AWESOME time in our new shirts and be well fed and entertained at lunch and dinner. And we will use the heck out of the goodie bag. I have each time!

Stragglers and ne're-do-wells (cheapskates) be forewarned!

SEADOGs better anty up NOW before I name names.

Some pretty obvious slackers missing from Mike's list.

I may be bringing some Props for People to try. I am going to try to bring from 23 to 27 of different types. And for you shortie guys I always bring a 28, 29, and 30 TXP, depending what I have on my boat at the time. With some luck we4 may have a couple of new Solas props for Merc drives as well as Solas for Old Volvo drives as well. No promises just trying to put something together.

Grizz..I'm running a IMCO shorty and would like to try a 24 or 25 4-blade if you or anyone else has something to test....Just wanna c what the boat will do:wink: . My Hydro 23 is not enough prop...:eek!: Thanks in advance.

Air I had you in mind. do you have a srandard prop shaft or a XR. I hope it is a standard or I'll have to look for a larger hub. I think a 25 will be a minum size. I have a couple of 24 blades in my bag of tricks and some larger on the way. I also think you need to try a new 3 blade also. Just want what is best for you and the boat. At 14 hours, you are there. I know as you are a flyboy when you say 14 hours that is exactally what you have. One thing I need to say if you Hit sonething and break it you will own it, unless it is the props fault. wish me luck guys

Grizz...my Shortie outdrive shaft is standard RH Bravo size:wink: My 3 blade prop is a new Turbo 25.... it handles like crap (but is fast) compared to a 4 blade for many obvious reasons. The 4-Blade I enjoy much more:yes: The 3 blade handles better on the standard Bravo drive so i'll keep it for the future. Overall, I still like the 4-bladed props handling characteristics on either drive...the extra blade in the water makes all the difference!

Depending on the diameter etc...a 24 or 25 4-blade might be the ticket. Looking fwd to testing....

I have a larger hub I can bring if needed! Just let me know :)

So here I am on a Monday night having a "light beverage" and thinking.... "I love my job."

In exactly 10 days I have around 100 of my friends (new and old) coming to my hometown to have a party! WOW!

So I made a decision.....

Anyone, ANYONE, coming in Thursday is invited to my home for a Pre-Rally party! 7pm!!!!!! I already know of 10 people who are driving/flying in early. But I know of at least 8-10 people who live locally that could make it!

We'll have some live music, food, beverages, and most importantly, good times with good friends. Bring your suit for the hot tub!

So.... if you can come PLEASE, PLEASE call me and tell me so I can get the proper goods and give you directions!!

Hope to hear from you soon! (941) 387-5737

Venice via the intercoastal is a long slow run. Tons of speed zones. That's where we went the first time I met up with the Donzi crew. I had the Formula 242 then. I remember people freaking out when Debbie dove over the side in the middle of Sarasota bay to clear the seaweed from the offshore water intakes. :) On that same trip, she got bit by a dolphin that hangs out at the bridge near Venice they call Beggar. Also I ran aground that day.:bonk:

Yes, the run south will be towards Snake Island. By the Intercoastal it is slow but outside is wonderful (as we all found out on the way back that year). It doesn't mean we're going to Snake Island - there are a bunch of restaurants down there where people can stop.

We'll put something together when we get there to see how many may want to run south. Otherwise, it is a free day of boating anywhere. We have a ton of beaches to hit and hang around on.

CUDA, sorry for the bad memories. Killer dolphins are well known in this area :)

The boat is running MUCH better and we are bringing it. The Demon carb works great- we should have changed it a long time ago. We think we have most of the trash/residue out of the gas tank so that issue is resolving itself. We put on a new filter after each run.
I am taking Friday off and hoping Tom can also so we can get an early start.
I'll keep in touch and maybe we can follow each other down.

I'll let Mike know about the room. It was for Mark Poole but they can't go now.

To all,
I am bringing a prop to sell: 4-bladed SS Mercury Bravo 1 22P for Mercury drive. It is a take-off from my '06 22ZX with 350Mag MPI, Bravo 1 drive with 1.65 ratio. I was on the boat, new, when I acquired it and have only put 35 hours on it since. I now have a different prop. This one is for sale. $225 if I have to mail it to you, $200 if you pick it up at this event. The price goes up $100 if I have to take it to a prop shop to remove the extremely itty-bitty nick in one of the blades (you have to run your fingers over it to know it is there).

Test run went well. I only ran it to 4000 rpm, since there's a 30 mph speed limit on the river, and I had already seen a grouper trooper on the river. It ran a tick over 52 mph at 4000 rpm, with no trim and a 23" cleaver prop. The new interior wasn't any hotter than the original, once you get in it. I reckon we'll be bringing it to Sarasota next weekend.

BigGrizzly
09-25-2006, 08:56 AM
Best thing to do is try some other the Q4 is an old Mach patriot copy works well on a lot of applications. What boat are we talking about, the Minx? There is no perfeict prop for all applications. What we need is to get the prop that fits you and your boat. The 22" seems a little short on most boats. I think I will be bringing somthing that small. I won't know untill The shipments get here. It doesn't cost to try. A 23 or 24 of a different design may be better suited for your application. I think we need to try a 3 blade, because the Minx doesn't have any ill handling problems that I know of.

Btw, we've decided to bring Deb's 22. She really wants to bring it, steel trailer be damned. When it rusts out, and it will, I'll just buy a new aluminum trailer, since I'm going to have to eventually anyway. I really like the way the boat pulls on that trailer. I'd like to have an aluminum one built just like it. Cradles the boat perfectly. No sense living in Florida and being afraid of running in salt.

Thanks to the people who tried props and gave me excelant feed back This will help others get closer to the best prop for their boats. With your feed back props will get better and better. They have improved by leaps and bounds in just the past 5 years. Again thanks Mike and every body else for making it a real pleasure to be there. I truly appreciate the concern that everyone had with my health issue, we are over the hump and on the way back better than ever. What a way to wind down the boating season.

I do have to add one thing negative, and this wasn't Mikey's fault...

I, personally, was VERY DISAPPOINTED that DONZI didn't do more for this event. Especially in their backyard... I know I speak for more than a few, when I say I was counting on seeing/riding in/evaluating a new 27ZR. Even with a stock 496HO. It's a very logical step up from the 18 and 22 crowd, that this event draws the most traffic/attendance from. I think they could have sold 2 boats, maybe more... I also would like to have seen a 29ZF w/250's there as well. While I like to see and hear the 38ZR's, i'm NOT a customer for one of those. Isn't Lightning Bay a DONZI dealer ???

Just had to let that out....

I heard someone say that when they left the Miami Boat Show, they had so many orders for the 27 that they still haven't caught up. Don't know who I heard it from.
