I am going to take delivery of a 23P Hydromotive QUAD IV to try on my Classic 18 w/350 Mag MPI. I am currently spinning a 23P Mirage Plus (too much RPM at WOT) though I expect to lose about 400 RPM with the new prop, can anyone tell me what characteristics I can expect from the Hydromotive?

thanks,

Jeff

I have a 23p Q-IV and a Ballistic 25p 3 blade. The Rootsy is correct concerning the Hydromotive prop. I love mine when the water is rough and I can't run WOT.

I just had my Ballistic prop worked at a local propshop. They balanced the blades, put a scotchbrite finnish on the front of the blades and increased the cup. Before the work was done, the Ballastic would blow out in turns and holeshots. Now it is perfect!! I was out yesterday, with 3/4 tank of fuel, and bimini top up, ran 73 at 4800 rpms. Cruised 45mph at 2300 rpms. Hole shot is great. I'm loving the Ballistic Prop now!!:yippie:

Thanks for the feedback, I will also be trying out a Turbo 1 24P. How would this compare to the M+?

Also the M+ seems to be pretty stable at 62mph or so, I'm a little weary of the Hydro keeping the hull in the water at that speed, I usally trim it out to skip on the last 2 feet of hull.

thanks,
Jeff

Yep, 45 at 3300rpm's. the 2 is next to the 3. Besides, I'm on vacation and the Margaritas are good!!

Jeff, the stern lifting is a fact when running the Hydromotive. In my case a little to much but that's another story. I'm running a 24.5" OT and have found it to be the best so far. MOP was kind enough to loan me a 25" four blade Ballistic that I'm dying to try. I'll be testing it at AOTH so look for the results after the event. Randy Oak runs a Hydro on his 18 you might want to give him a shout.

While the M+ is faster, I run nothing but the Hydro anymore.. (http://www.donzi.net/video/MP-StJohns.mpg) Stern lift is not all bad :) :)

It's when you decelerate rapidly and your bow takes a dive :banghead:.
