Hey guys, I have recently purchased an 18 Classic (she is a beaut!) and I am wondering if the stock prop is a good one to keep or if I should upgrade it to something better. If you think I should upgrade please steer me in the right direction. Thanks!

What do you have now? Pitch, make, model, etc.

cday..I just bought an C- 18 as well, 1999 350 / 300 alpha 1. It came with a Mirage plus 23 ( not sure if from the factory ) but I'm getting about 62 mph by
the speedo with 2 people and full fuel tank. Going to look at Turbos at AOTH this year. Anyone's suggestions appreciated....

Hi All,

I also have a '99 18C with the 350. I am currently running a Mirage+ 23P but I find my engine revs up a little too high at WOT. I am going to try out a 4 blade Hydromotive 23P (probably going to drop it too much, but I had to try one, everyone raves about them). I am hoping to end up with a 25P Mirage + I think that would be the best setup for my rig.

If you tried a Turbo prop, you may have second thoughts about a Mirage+. Turbo's have a 14 1/4 dia. versus a 14 5/8 for the +. The smaller dia. may net you better speed and handling. Another advantage is price in the Turbo's favor. Give it a try and you may not look back. Jim- - - - By the way , some of our members are dealers for Turbo's.

If you can twist a 25 M+ you have some serious HP (not stock). My preference is still a Turbo1. A final thought, what is the drive ratio?

Not sure about the drive ratio, but i would guess 1.47. I'm starting to think the 23P hydro I have coming will be a monster to try and spin, I will also be trying a 24P Turbo 1. I also have a Classic 16 w/190 HP and I put a Vengeance head to head with the Turbo 1, same pitch... Merc Vengeance stayed, Turbo sold.

thoughts?

Since we are on the subject of props, I'd like some opinions on my setup.
Stock 18C with 350sbc and an Alpha I w/ 1:50 ratio. Prop is the factory original Quicksilver 21P cleaver. Engine turns 4800@WOT. What I like about the prop is that it has a very good hole shot and has great punch at mid-range RPM's. I'm not that interested in top speed, but really like the mid range punch for juking around, jumping, and fast acceleration. As I understand, a cleaver is a stern lift prop. I would like to get more bow lift and keep it punchy. Suggestions welcome.
Thanks - Dave
