I've got my digital tach ready for some sea trials this weekend to make sure I'm on the right prop, etc. Seeing as the stock speedo is not really worth anything, does anyone offer a GPS rental similiar to AutoZone's tool rental? I'd really hate to lay out fat cash for something I'd really never use. FWIW...what's a ballpark speed for the stocker bumping between 55 and where 60 would be on the speedo?

I've never heard about a rental service. If you aren't worried about all the bells and whistles (doesn't sound like you are), you can get a garmin etrex for under $90.

Thats the one i have. Water resistant too. I bought mine primarily for my boat, but have found lots of other uses for it. That may be easier than hunting down a rental.

Good luck with the prop testing.

Etrex is decent but not ideal for anything that vibrates alot, I have had several on them on dirt bikes, the batteries do not have a good enough connection and they frequently shut off. You would think you could just bend the battery spring clips and it would fix it but it does not help, it is a known problem with them, I finally gave up after two replacements.

My Etrex just quit on me for no apparent reason. Just wouldn't come on one day. I bought the cheap Magellen this time. Less than $100 at Walmart.

Boaters World STILL has the Garmin GPS MAP 76 (?) for $199.00.
I bought one about six months and use for everything! In the car and planes, I hook it up to my laptop sitting on the console and PRESTO!!, you have a nav system w/ a 14 1/4" screen.

Not knowing how you are propped, it's tough to speculate. I'll go out on a limb and say that if you have a 22-23 pitch prop, your stock speedo is probably pretty close. If you have a 19-21 pitched prop, your speedo is probably optimistic.

ASSuming that you have 210-220 horsies and are correctly propped for the best of both worlds (holeshot and top end) I think your boat should do 57-62.

Please let us know. BTW, my 5.0 mpi in the 16 turns a steady 60 top speed on GPS.

I'm running a 19P Vengeance currently. What is the stock prop size?

19 seems a bit small with a 350 chevy should have more snot then my 16 had, I had a 23 with a lightly juiced 302+ it ran 57.9 just under 5000.

It came with the boat and I've used it for the past couple of years. If I could get into something else with a larger pitch, I'd be all about it.

What should I be looking for? A low 20s three blade?

Propellor noob question...what's the diameter and rotation I need? Stock 97 Alpha...what's the gear ratio?

Yup, that's how Donzi delivered 'em. That Vengeance is a piece of ****. Dump it for a Turbo I in either a 22 or 23 pitch. I'm running a 22 with my 5.0. Your 350 should be able to spin a 23 w/o a problem. You'll give up that "jump out of the water" holeshot, but your top end will be much higher with less over-revving.

Given your prop, I'd say you'll be lucky to see 52-54 mph on GPS at max rpms (prolly 4700-4800 for your motor).

...what's the gear ratio?

It's stamped in the drive housing at the stripe on the port side.

With the 19 there now or when I flip to a 23?

With the Veng 19. I'm estimating 57-62 with a 22 or 23 pitch.

Good luck.
