Todays run in Yippy-Kai-Yay took us close to the aircraft carrier USS ORISKANY. This carrier is to be sunk off the coast of Pensacola Beach,Florida. It will become an artificial reef 20 miles off Santa Rosa Island in app. 200 feet of water. The Oriskany was a very historical carrer, many battles in Viet Nam. A few Koren war movies were filmed onboart the Oriskany.
Heres to a Great Ship, and a Symbol of all of our Freedom!!!
Also a picture of Yippy-Kai-Yay, and my Crazy wife Denise.

I think she's still scheduled to be sunk on Wednesday May 17th at day break. I'll bet there will be a fairly large specator fleet.

I'm not sure how high the superstructure is from the keel, but 200 feet is too deep for sportdivers. Diving was the big calling during the politics of getting the Oriskiny to Pensacola. Maybe they wanted it too deep to keep divers from going inside the ship and getting lost and drowning.

According to this site the top of the super structure will be about 55' deep and the flight deck will be about 130' deep. The New Journal says it will be open to divers within 48 hours of sinking.
