Thought you guys who "really like" engines might find this interesting. The most powerful diesel in the world. http://www.bath.ac.uk/~ccsshb/12cyl/

Yep, i've seen that before...cool as hell.
" Even at it's most efficient power setting, the big 14 consumes 1,660 gallons of heavy fuel oil per hour." .....no more bitchin' about the 502 in the Crit' ;)

And you have this guy at the other end of the spectrum: http://www.nvbackflow.com/engines/

Thats 108,920 Horse Power AT 102 RPM. Back in the old days, when I was in the Navy, we cruised at about 72 RPM....at the propeller. The ship was about 470 feet long and had a 1200 PSI Steam Plant. Now how about we take 108,000 HP and hook it up to a "Step Up" gearbox and put it in the smallest practicle V-Bottoml??? John

Nah: It's probably too heavy.

OH Wait: How about a big "Wave Piercing" catamaran????

EDIT: At 72 RPM, we were doing about 17 Knots.
