i have a velvet transmision for my vdrive the transmision has sat fot 15-16 years was told should be rebuilt was working fine when in use last the local rebuilder for velvet transmisions charges $700 and is a real ass. my question is should it be rebuilt before i even try to see if it works. also found a rebuilt in fla for $600

Try it first as long as the dipstick looks like good oil (not water or water mixed with oil) is in it. Be prepared for leaky front and rear seals though. Front seal is easy to replace without disassembling tranny, rear one not as easy but still doable without a disassemble. I'd pop in a front seal for the heck of it, maybe not the rear if can get to it after it is installed.

Tommy is 100% right! If it worked 16 years ago and the oil looks good it will still work and for many years to come it ain't no damn out drive!
