There must be a good story to go with that picture. How does the rest of the engine look?

Not much of a story. Just started up on the garden hose after the winter of non-use.Had the unforntunate dry lifter tap, ran the engine for a few minutes then a loud tapping, shut it off. Tried to restart, would not turn over. Thought maybe I had spun a bearing. Pulled the engine, pulled the intake, saw the bent pushrod, then saw thru the intake port a missing valve. Pulled the head and here is the damage. That one piston sustained top damage, seems to be no cylinder wall damage. Bottom end was filled with 3 gallons or more of water, drained pulled pan, all looks well. Oiled everything up, all rotates, but with some drag. More investigation to follow. Maybe it's time for a replacement

I beleive that I will be able to rebuild the bottom end, and replace the cam, just because. But I need a set of cylinder heads, any suggestions for marine heads and where to get the proper set? I am in South Florida, Thanks, Brian

Engine is a SBC, Volvo Penta 290a. 1985. I am sure there are lots of heads available. Marine heads that is

You can go to Vortecs for about a 30hp gain - heads are decent price too (249 a piece at Jegs). That, with a new intake manifold, and your done, heads have gotta be done, why not spend a little more and get some more HP?

Just a thought
