IPS providers are starting to require authentification to use their outgoing (smtp) servers. This is due to spammers finding holes and taking these over.
If you do lose the ability to send email suddenly, first check your Account setting for your outgoing mail server and all you need to do is edit the account for authentification. In most cases this is under Perferences, select you mail account, Check the box on Authentification, type in your user name and your password again in the lines provided. Most of the software works this way.
