There is a relationship between how many friends you have that send out mass email and how much spam you may get. I have four friends that love to cut and paste jokes off the web, or tell me about their children during the holidays, and then send it as a form letter with everyone's email address in the header as a CC bulk mailing. Once someone sends out one of these, the damage is done, because the email will get repeated expodentually like a chain letter across the internet with every person that read and forwarded it and it eventually will find its way, in one nice little package, of hundreds of valid emails, to a spammer or worse. Ask your friends to use Blind Carbon Copy (Bcc) instead, if they absolutely have to send out mass emails. It will do the same thing, but will not transmit the addresses in the header.

Those mass mailings are annoying and I asked people to stop sending them. You're right about how they travel and multiply. But I haven't noticed any correlation with spam.
