Previous owner installed side and aft bolsters using standard screws that have now rusted and stained the cockpit interior fiberglass. Any ideas of the best way to remove stains?

Many thanks,

LL

I had to use several grades of sandpaper to remove it. I tried compound, but it didn't "cut it" ha ha!
I think I started with 800 and worked up to 1500, and THEN buffed.
Good luck.

This stuff worked for me. No scrubbing.

I've used "FSR" from Boats US. or West Marine with good success.

Well depending on how bad it is...Starbrite would work best, just becareful around your hands and breathing it. Also FSR works well...An automotive wheel cleaner"acid" will work also...

Heh heh , did someone say acid ? ?
Before I go nuts with sandpaper and buffers etc , I always try to see how much Muriatic acid will remove. In the past I have had results vary from 100% removal to about 50 %.
If it's not too embedded in a chalky gelcoat surface you may not have to sand/buff at all .

For little spots and runs, I use Whink Rust Stain Remover (brown plastic bottle, white cap). You can get this stuff in a grocery store by the chemicals and cleaners or mom and pop hardware store. Squirt on wait about 5 seconds, and wipe off with a paper towel. For big rust stains (like the hull), The Works Toilet bowl cleaner does a fine job.
