Well, it's going to be below freezing here for 3-4 hours early this morning, I don't know if it's necessary or not, but I've placed a light under the boat cover to help keep the engine warm. Is this necessary, or overkill?

Thanks

Wayne do you have fresh or salt or fresh water in the block, if fresh put the bulb under the engine. Salt water needs sustained 15-20 degrees to freeze, I have seen a couple go two days without breaking anything.

Phil, primarily fresh, I flush well after every use, ran it about 1 week ago on the hose for about 20 minutes.

I'm gonna go out in a couple of hours with the ray-tech and measure temp, it's not going to stay freezing, just from like 3-8am. But, having dealt with (2) now cracked blocks, I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Thanks

I gotta go to Lowes and buy three lights to put in the boats. It's supposed to get down to 22 tonight, and be below freezing for up to 8 hours. :(

if it's only 3 or 4 hours of at or just below freezing (say high 20's) then i wouldn't even worry bout it... seriously... and if it is salt water you don't really need to worry til you are into the teens foir an extended period of time

it takes more than a few hours to freeze the system; Cuda's got the plan; a100 watt light bulb does more than you might think - even when it's really cold, not just florida cold.

I'm actually using an explosion proof outdoor halogen lamp with stand, on a GFI outlet. They stay NICE and warm. This morning, I ray-teched the opposite side of the block, by the manifolds, and read 46f. Outside was 35, so, needless to say, I'm happy.

Having been through 2 cracked blocks now, I'm not taking ANY chances

you guys run the blower before turning that light bulb on too don't ya????
Well Matty, I still haven't replaced my sun-pad, and I know that I get plenty of air circulation under the cover. But, no, I don't, maybe I should, but thought I'd be safe with the explosion proof light.

Oh well, at least it didn't blow up last night

It's a 40 watt in that one, and a 60 in the metal one.

I did the light in mine too. Haven't checked it yet since the cold. The + side of unwinding the extension chord, I will charge the batteries and possibly go for a ride this weekend.
