Is 1.35:1 a common gear ratio in a Volvo AQ270?
My old AQ200 is 1.51:1, and I'm wondering how the 1.35:1 would differ. Which one, for instance, would operate more efficiently with higher HP?

No, they are scarce as hell. You could build a monster motor tho, and prop it from the limited supply of blades available and get where you want with a pile of ponies.

I think Grizz's SOLAS props, in the 23"-25" pitch would work fine if you have about 400 horsies. I CAN'T spin the SOLAS 21" past 4400 RPM's with my 350. I can spin my Ultra 24" to 5400...I am running 1:61's.

1:34
1:61
1:86
2:14

I believe are what was available. They run about $800-900 for a new set.

Lenny, are they scarce because they are undesirable or ineffiecient? The engine currently in front of sounds like it is pretty strong from the description, and the broker says 55mph...but does not know the rpm's. Can you give it to me in simpler terms...like, the 1.35:1 is a great find! Or, stay the hell away from it!

:cool!: .....................what Matty said.

Lenny seems to have the same results I have on my setup. Any idea if the 1.3 drive will push a 24 Ultra with a 350/320 hp?
Will have to wait a few months to find out.

From what I have gleaned from here and a conversation with the owner of Hustler the lower ratio is more desireable, it it will hold up to more HP due to the greater gear contact area and allows you to run lesser pitched props which in turn give less stern lift. The last thing we want in our boats is stern lift.
