i've seen several boats for sale with bottom paint. Aside from looking like crap, whats the big problem with bottom paint??
Thanks in advance, greg

It adds a ton of wieght and it kills 2-3 MPH.
It has the surface texture of shag carpet.
It's a LOT of fun to remove!!! Took me about two weeks.
Only buy a trailer boat w/bottom paint if it's the deal of a lifetime.

Weight, drag, ugly, and most importantly guaranteed salty history.

On the other hand , if your boat HAS to live overboard like they do over here (no trailer boats in this place).. It
a) has to be done
b) has to be done right
c) after many years you figure out how to do it right and which brands work the best
d) It looks far better than a hull full of barnacles and weed (which only takes about 10 days to occur)
e) will save you gas (important at over $6 a gallon)
f) rob you of a bit of speed but who cares when at over $6 a gallon you rarely can afford to go WOT
Trailer boats with waxy gel bottoms are a fantasy here !

many fresh water boat have bottom paint as many people leave them in the water for the boating season it keeps the skum from growing on them
you loose some speed from it and doesnt look good but it works

Also bottom paint is designed to stay in the water and not meant for regularly trailered boats..it will start to crack...

Get a lift any kind is better then that stufff .. or a trailer... A boat with a stern drive does not belong to live in salt water full time... no way.:embarasse
As for most fresh water.. a little green is better then paint and the green comes off with a little work !!

Most blister warrantees are voided if you leave them in longer than a week or two without the proper barrier coat. We have go fast guys that leave em in here and power wash them once a month. This is in fresh water. Blister problems are common with this practice.
