Since it's winter and my quack of a boat doctor proceeded to give me the proverbial shaft (hint: if in Ohio, do not go to Kunkel's Marine in Ontario, Ohio) I'm trying to see my options for a new lower gear as he put the wrong one in and refuses to admit it or fix it. He put the one for the 6-8 cyl. in and i've got a lowly old 3.0L. Do they make a different gear that will fit in the larger housing?
Thanks and Merry Christmas,
Justin

What prop are you currently running? wouldn't it be easier to swap the prop than the gear?
I was running a 19p viper with my 21 with the V6 case, when I put in the 8, I went up to a 22,....
If you're running a 19 at say 4000rpm, you could try a 15-17p
Too bad he won't make it right though

currently running a 15 and getting around 3500-3800 rpm's. I can get the boat on plane with 2 people but skiing or any other form of watersports are out of the question. The case he put on is in very good shape and that's why I was wondering if you can change gears or if I have to have one custom made. I'd repower it but the little women has a bun in the oven and says absolutly not as far as spending that kind of money right now. (sigh)

You can still get gears,.....
I don't have a reference right off the top of my head, but I'll find it and post it, may need to change both upper and lower.
Lots of work though,......

What's the thoughts of doing the cheap way and have a custom made prop?
