Bertram Boy Your scooter sets a new land speed record

Cliff, this just in .....A 2006 production model BMW K 1200S has set a land speed record in the 1000cc-1350cc stock, partially streamlined, naturally aspirated class at the Salt Flats. The bike reached a average speed of 173.57 and a top speed of 176.789 after two runs. The record was set Sept 8 2005. Now if you can just find a road in CT. Ken

Have you seen any pics of the streamlined version of this bike? BMW always builds "interesting" bikes when it comes to aerodynamics.

176 is impressive as !@#$!!!!!! Just not with me on it. The fastest I've been so far is only 110 (the bike was still in it's break in period).

Cliff, not only is this true, but they've been building "interesting" specials for at least 80 yearsFor instance, this one in '37, blown twin, about 180 HP and 178 MPH.

George, your 100% correct. Most people don't realize that BMW has been producing bikes(starting in 1923) longer than cars(starting in 1928).

I've read about the Kompressor model for years. It was a totally unique machine at the time. There's been a lot written about it. I think I read about it first in about 1958 or so.
My first streetworthy bike was a 1950 R25 I bought for $100.00 from the guy who brought it back with him from Germany as a GI. I bought it in 1960 and it still had the original metal dealer tag on the front fender.
BMW motorcycles have a special place in my heart.
I'd like to have another some day.
