OK,...

Looking to maybe borrow a set of scoops for the hatch, they were removed from my boat, and I'd like to put 'em back on. SO, I was hoping to borrow a set to have them reproduced.

Can someone hook a brother up?

Poodle, I know you know the scoop on scoops, and I'll be givin' you a call tomorrow ;) ,....gonna need a little help :hyper:

Thanks
Wayne

Well, there was the intake scoop, and wasn't (isn't) there also a pair of scoops over the exhaust risers?

I have never seen a factory X with the scoops over the risers.
There was one for sale in Oregon, a black one a while back that had 3 scoops on it.......is that where you saw it?

some useless information i had a 1977 x-18 with factory 350-280 horse and trs outdrive, the boat had to factory hood scoops one over each riser were thay had to cut the hatch for it to stick up through,,,also my 1979 x-18 had a factory 454-330 horse with trs drive and had the identical set up..also the hatch hidges were mounted on the side so it could swing open because the hood scoops would hit the top of the transom if you tried to open it...

X-18, that is an interesting new "tid bit". :)

thats the scoops they used to cover up the holes the factory cut out in the hatch on each side to cover up the risers on trs drives that sat up higher through the hatch...that sat over the top of the transom so you could not open up the hatch the normal way..they put the hinges on the side of the hatch and it opened to the side of the boat.....also im from maryland and most of the dodge dealers sold donzis in the lates 1970s....donzi also made a hand full of promo boats for sunnco oil company they were yellow with dark blue stripes like the colors of sunnoc oil companys....some more info...

X-18, you need to download or upload your camera and pics/memories of the day. You have a few new tid-bits. The Dodge thing I have NEVER heard of. Nor Sunoco.

X-18 confirmed what I was thinking. I looked at a number of X-18's before I bought mine and every X-18 with a TRS drive that I've seen had those covers over the exhaust risers. Tuxedo Park had photo's of his on the registry a year or so ago, and the one Dregz sold in Oregon had them also. The engine must sit higher with the TRS.

I indirectly knew a guy (he's now a doctor) back about it 75-76ish from Altamonte Springs, outside of Orlando, that took delivery of a then new Sunoco blue/yellow 18. He was a ski nut, and used it a LOT of weekends on Lake Butler (?) just to the west of downtown Orlando. His closet lake to his house, Lake Apopka, was way toooo polluted to swim in, so he used the boat on an across town lake. I personally never saw the boat, but a couple good friends of mine used it regularily. I remember them saying it was a cool, and very striking, color combo.

Saw not an X-18, but mid 70s 18 Classic with a small block TRS setup. Hatch opened to the side rather than back and had these small scoops over the exhaust and the intake. I'm looking for a picture of the boat. I know I have one somewhere, just not sure where.

Ted, my '77 X-18 came from the factory with a Mercruiser 280TRS package and it originally had the bubble scoops over the riser on the old factroy end-rise iron manifolds. The 280 TRS package just wouldn't fit under the X-18 deck without making extra clearence for the risers and the flame arrestor. The cutouts for the exhaust risers were cut to the lip of the hatch which made it severely weak. On my X-18, the scoops are long gone, and the cutouts in the hatch have been filled.
