Just got off the phone with one of our even colder area Donzi brothers and decided to post a got tip for COLD weather starting. This relates to injected vehicles, they are a system that needs initial pressurization. When you go to start on these frigid days fist turn the key to the run position, on most vehicles you can here a whirring sound from the back of the vehicle. That sound is the fuel pump pressurizing the system, when the sound stops (3-5 seconds) then got to the start position, two things: One it will add life to your starter and start quicker. Two the starter can demands a lot of currant and will steal voltage to the fuel pump making it harder to try to start. The very few seconds will save you a lot of possible aggravation.

Good info Phil.
This is the exact same way you should be starting your other fuel injected engines such as motorcycles, pickup trucks, cars, etc. The fuel rail and injector(s) need pressure to squirt fuel into the engine. You'll notice the issue more in the cold weather. Up here in the great white north - Minnesota we live with this BS every morning. It's been -5°F or so the last few mornings. When it gets down to 15-20 below zero ya gotta pull out a whole nother batch of tricks to get engines going. Electric blanket for the battery and engine heaters work best. Makes me woder WTF am I doing living here. Oh ya, we have those 10 thousand lakes in the summer.
