When trading in a Boat on a new Boat the dealer is telling us that we need to pay tax on the whole amount not just the trade difference. I guess this just started this year.

Is this true? That is like paying TAX twice.

NY has its own way of multiple taxation when it comes to real estate.

There is a 1.05% mortgage tax that people pay whenever they take out or refinance a mortgage with a different lender!

I hope that is just a local thing to you. I have never had to do that in TN. But I haven't bought a vehicle via trade in in almost 2 years

Michigan has been that way on all types of vehicles since the early 80's.

I'm not sure about this but I don't think you would pay any Michigan tax if you plan on taking it back to Illinois. I am going to Kansas City MO tomorrow to pick up a new car for my wife and I am not paying any tax until I register it in Michigan.

We keep this boat in Michigan and paid the piper.

Otherwise the 30day rule comes in play.

And we dont need to mess with the man.

We only pay tax on the cash differance in the purcahse price on boats and cars.
But out real estate tax is high in NY, our house is a nice but plain 4 bed 2 bath cape. We are just under 6k and getting bumped very regular.
