kind of a muddled question to many variables

I would say you ask

who has the fastest

barrelback ??? different hull design

or on a standard 18 hull ( x18 , 18 c or corsican)
go by who has the fastest
volvo driven stock and non stock

bravo driven stock and non stock

alpha driven stock and non stock

other drive stock and non stock BH's and jet or arney's

seems the names

brian73, brad verd,cdma, walleye,kraven, magicbill, geoo, doncig,ranman,

come to mind as some of the fastest around I am sure there are others

Interesting banter ! I for one would love to see a spread sheet on some of our faster 18's. One you really need to watch out for is Doug Lovins yellow 18. When that boat is on the money............let's just say she fly's, 76mph +.

Doug, at the risk of putting you on the spot would you like to pipe in here.

I guess I should clarify my statement all of the names mentioned are in that neighborhood for speed well except geoo

stock would be any standard motor/drive package available from a dealer
and non stock motor drive package would be something tweaked or modified that would void the dealers warrantee like a shorty or blower, and the like

so Brad Verd's X 18 all though not a standard volvo package because it has a repwower to a 6.2 mag still uses a standard volvo leg and an engine package available from a dealer it would be considered a stock boat if you would like to consider and original category like a h/m setup with a volvo that is the same as it left the factory I can see that also, Brian73 x18 using an e drive and a tweaked motor would fall into a non stock catergory

Kraven's and magicbills boat would fall into a stock and original category although they have a racing motor so maybe a Big Blue category should be considered
yes a great topic for winter discussion would be nice to hear updated performance numbers from these guys
I just reviewed Brian73's video that boat screams!!!!

Sam yes I forgot Doug's boat seems I do recall a video of it running with rootsy's 16 at 75 mph :)

seems like you have your work cut out for you wes ;)

Doug is being shy today  so I'll post his numbers for him. He would be considered non stock as his motor is putting out around 425 hp while linked to an Alpha SS drive. Based on that package his best recorded run has been 78.2 gps on his home waters of Sand Lake Mi. (I love this boat )

This is a 1977 X-18, that had a factory installed 330 TRS. Shortly there after I had the motor changed to a Mercruiser 440, did not have GPS at the time, but with a willing Natural Resorces Police officer, and radar, 80.3 m.p.h.

The boat is still local, and very "cherry", although I understand the owner even added more power.

I will try to find out, and see if he has any GPS speeds.

Matty,Txtaz,Everyone...

My Scorp 18 has been as high as 74 on the Gaffrig. (No GPS,so I cannot give exact speeds.)
As Matty said, the boat is completly stock from the factory, although the argument can be made that it's a special engine. My owner's manual says it's a 377 from Mercury Racing Division.
It also has a Bravo XZ Drive with a factory-equppped 25P Mirage.

don't forget ranmans 18... and the yellow barrelback (not CDMA's) with the ZZ350 and SS which i believe now resides in texas somewhere... it was a 75 mph boat too... and then there is madpoodles X boat... and last tango's 6.2 18... and so on and so forth...

you are way down the list there taz... you have A LOT of catching up to do :cistineb:

and someday, i'll get the barrelback finished and maybe add my name to the ranks... :)

Matty, Officially my boat did 74.5 GPS as MrX can attest to since he built it, who then sold it to a bozo that cratered the drive and slapped on any ol 1.5 Bravo1, and didn't have a clue of what maintenance was. Thank GOD he only ran it a few hours before wrecking it. Taz' Devil will be back up in those speed ranges again. I have some secrets. Yo DonCIg...Snicker, snicker.
Da Taz<<<--- Hey I'm a Wes, are there more Matty

Wes,
well stop posting and start wrenching ;)
my quest for speed has been postponed for 4 years til I get the kids off to college , and will not be in the 16 or 18 they are just to hard on aging bodies
but this info is very valuable, not only for bragging and busting

I'm sure there are more out there
would be great to have all the info down on all of these boats I know we have the hot donzi spread sheet but to have one specific to the 18 would be great info for someone trying to tweak a volvo boat or a trs boat they have a benchmark

txtaz

Matty I can make spread sheets. I talked with George Cater once about making one and he thought there were too many 18's to keep up with. I'll do it if people email their info.
Da Taz<<<---NOW where did I leave that wench, I mean wrench

I called Donzi and asked, and they said no#3 went to Canada, but that was 2-3 years ago.
Hey,since I'm in the "fast 18"catagory,and have one of 3 Scorpions, can someone bump my "Rep Power" up a little?

That 377hp is a crank rating like all the merc performance products. They don't have to abide to the hp rating standards. So is the HP525, HP500, etc. The prop hp of the scorp is about 350hp. The prop hp of the 350 Mag is 300hp as rated because this is a non-performance product and has to abide by the marine hp conventions.

Thats correct, the reason I pointed out the HP is the fact that Mercury made
at least 4 engines ALL with the name Scorpion.......ALL with different HP ratings.
Some were 350 CI and others wrer 377 CI

320HP 340hp 350HP and 377HP

TMDog,

With full fuel, about 72 or so..
With 1/4 or less, and just me, about 74.
As I've said, these are speedo readings,.not GPS info.
That engine is a fabulous piece of engineering..Balanced,and smooth as glass at all rev ranges.
Why they discontinued it is beyond me,although, and kraven can probably back me on this, these Scorpion 18's are not cheap.
