It's time to take out the 327 and the 888 drive. I'm looking for a 3.0 140 h.p. 4 cyl. with an alpha. I'm not sure what gear ratio would be right for this boat. I was told the an alpha would fit into the same hole in the transom as the 888 drive (or maybe have to enlarge it) Is this true? Are the alpha generation 1 and generation 2 fit in the same size hole? Would I be able to use either a gen 1 or a gen 2 going from the 888 drive?

Hi try a post in the wanted section and check out what might be available in the parts for sale section.

Spank...

How are ya man? Hows your lovely girl Peg doing?

Anyway, if it was me....

I would go with a V-6/Alpha 1 combo. Those old boats weigh quite a bit, and I don't think the 4 banger will save you all that much on gas because it will be working alot harder. I am pretty sure you will not have to mod the transom all that much to replace the old 888 combo. If you go Alpha, make sure you go Gen II. THe parts are cheeeeep and plentiful...

PS: The boat is still in!

Now thats what I like to hear! V6 sounds good to me. Besides the expense, why not V6 Bravo? Imco shorty? Whoa, getting carried away. I'm assuming 1:5 gear ratio. Anyway, Peggy says hello to all

I would think a "stock" 4.3 and an alpha ss would be a killer combo on a 14
perfect power to weight ratio :)

I bought the boat with the intention of re-powering and although I spent little time on it the engine ran poor the one time I started it up. I wasn't interested in putting any time or money into an engine I was going to get rid of. Anyone interested in a 888 drive and transom assembley with a 327 V8? Let me know. Dave
