What prop were you running on Lake Harris the day we were there?

22" Hydro-Q4. I'll have it re-pitched to 23" soon.

What rpm are you turning with the 22 Q4?

4800, but I'd like a better cruise speed.

Is 4800 where you need to be for max rpm?

George I would try to borrow a 24 to see if you like the results, I think you will loose more then you gain. What do you consider is your best cruise RPM? 4800 on a moded motor is as close as you could want. These mouse motors like to spin, I cruise mine at 34-3500 that gives me a tick or two under 46 and almost 66 @ 49-5000 top with the 23 four blade.

I'm trying to get some other details finished so I can do some engine testing. The tightest it's ever run is 4800. I may be running out of carb. I ran a 25" cleaver at 4500 RPM @ 65 MPH, yet with a 22" it only runs 4800! Go figure.
I'll get around to this in a few weeks.
I've been trying to get it cleaned up for Sota. I got some important things wrapped up today. :smash: :yippie:

George, I will have a couple props in Sota if you want to try any. I'll have a 23 cleaver, a 24 turbo, and a 23 Mirage+, all three blades.

I might would like to try the 24" Turbo, I have tried a Mirage + and the experience was a little underwhelming for us. It's the ONLY time the boat has chine walked.

George, just as an FYI this past summer I sent my 23" Hydro OT back to Throttle Up for some pitch tweaking. I ended up with it being pitched at 24.5". Based on that pitch and running in warm air temps I was getting 70-71 mph (gps) @ 5100rpm.

I'm sort of in the same boat (no pun) as you are with thoughts of a slightly bigger carb. I'm not sure if I want to open that can of worms though. You really need to know your @&!# when playing with carbs. Good luck !

quick way to size your carb... or see if you do NOT have enough... get a vacuum gauge... and a loooooong length of rubber tube (15 ft of windhshield washer hose works)... hook the gauge to one end and the other end plumb to manifold vacuum... IF at WOT you show anything lower than ZERO then you have a restriction through the carb and the motor wants more air than the venturis can deliver.. run this same test w/ and w/o the flame arrester to verify that it isn't your point of restriction also....

600 cfm holley on my 350... pulled 5 inches of vacuum at 5500 rpm... i went to the 750 demon i now pull zero and i gained nearly 3 mph... which equates to something like 30 hp in my 16... results may (will) vary... and a holley to a demon is not quite apples to apples... you just gotta do some diagnostic work up front and make an educated decision...

I was wondering when you were going to chime in here James. Great tip on the vacum gauge. I'm going to try and do the test before I put her away for the winter.......thanks.
