Has anyone rebuilt a 500 EFI motor? I'm looking at
a Donzi that has a three seized motors. What is
the bore/stroke on the motor? If it needs a crank,
merc wants somewhere in the neighborhood of $1500;
I would like to rebuild everything internal with parts
from someone like Summit racing instead of Merc.

I just went though this, matter of fact just got them back. I chose Innovation Marine in Fla.,(941-355-7852) as they would seem to do more than anyone in counrty. This is the company that must "seal" the racing motors for the offshore sanctions.

In addition, they have an imppressive "525 upgrade," mine came off the Dyno at 563hp each. Bore 4.000 inches/Stroke 4.466 inches.

What other specs do you have on that engine. Carbed or EFI? I am guessing that you are running at least 91 octane.

one thing to consider is the manner of siezure. most engines require having the crank spinning to allow the connecting rods to be un bolted. Generaly most motors sieze from rusted rings in the sleave leaving the crank shaft undamaged.
Crank shafts can be reground for pennys by your local auto parts machine shop.
In any case you have to free the motor to disassemble it. If the engine didn't have closed cooling and was drinking salt water for cooling,and the engines are truly siezed chances are the motors were'nt flushed.This would open up a can of worms on the water jackets in the block,head and intake manifold. I speak of this because my magnum 350 in my minx had the exhaust pipe dunked under water by the previous owner. It got water salt water in the #4 cylinder. the motor wasn't flushed and sat for 5 yrs.When I took the heads of it still had the sea water in it. With naval jelly steal wool and a crow bar I got it freed up.I manage to salvage,the block.intake manifold, crank .all the rods and 7 out of 8 pistons,The push rods ,lifters ,springs and rockers.but the heads and valves were compleatly junk.

just food for thought:wavey:

The 500EFI/502 is a 4.467 Bore x 4.00 stroke by the way. If you have to rebuild and buy a crank anyway, bore it to 4.50 and stroke it to 4.25 and get a 540.
