409Biscayne: I just noticed this screename. Didn't want to hijack that thread. I'm having another flashback to the Early Sixties. I had a friend who had one. I think it was a 1961 Biscayne, 409 cubes, 409 HP, Z-11 cam. Stock light metallic blue with small stock hubcaps. It looked like your grandmothers car. It would turn in the low 11s. He towed the car to the drags every Friday night and Sunday, (Northern NJ), won his class every time and took home a $100. savings bond. Helped pay his way through college. :checkered

The car would barely run in the street because of overheating. Have lots of spare time and carry plenty of extra water...then wait a half hour at the side of the road before adding the water. I believe the early 409s were really bored out 348s, leaving very thin cylinder walls. I think in '62, or '63, Chevy came out with a new 409 with a bigger block that was more "streetable."

Anyone else got a "Flashback"?? :lookaroun
