First you would need the specialty tools and they would cost big bucks. Not everyone has them. Not knowing your mechanical skills I would try to source someone who has done a few of these.

All parts are available and the inner parts are similiar to the Bravo except the vertical shaft. I had mine redone for about 4K Canadian and that is with the up-dated gear set. It was/is a 1:50 Ratio.

first why do you want to change from a 1.36 to a 1.50.the 136 ratio is a stronger gear set and you will get more hp to the props..i would take the money involved and put it into the engine if your trying to turn bigger props. or bring your boat to my shop and ill make it rock..(whipple charge it)

Its not hard at all, it only requires ONE "speciality" Tool. It is the same as the Bravo drive and is only about $50.00 from Mercury.

I have several new gear sets with the bearings and shafts.

The change takes about 2 hours.

you should just buy a bh 1.50 from ted and keep your 1.36 as a back up

The 1.36 gears are no stronger than the 1.5 gearset. You definitely want to update the gearset with the replacement HD set from Merc. Most eveything is available except the vertical shaft (You can have that machined) or the case (NLA, break the case and your screwed) The problem you are going to have with a BH is prop selection. You are limited to 27P, 29P or 31P unless you start thinking custom props. Leave the gearset alone until you get your project done. Then you can fine tune the gears & props...

That being said, a rough starting point for height puts the bottom of the BH torpedo even with the keel/bottom of the boat. In theory you could go a touch higher, maybe 1/2 inch, but not much.

(per mercury)1.36 is stronger than 1.50,,,,,,,,less teeth on gears = bigger gear area = more power that the gear can handle,,,,,,been their bone this broke more 1.50 drives than 1.36 well i never broke a 1.36 drive = 1.36 is stronger..........

Mr X

do you still have a set of 1.36 blackhawk gears?

I have a 1.5 in my drive now and the spare drive has pooched upper gears that I could change over and have both

I know we've talked before but I should get off my ass

send me a pm

I have an almost brand new set of gears for a 1:50 Blackhawk.
Very fair price to the right individual.

..."if" you have the ponies to spin the 31's to redline with your motor and you have the balls to stay in it between porpoises. :D
