Hi all; been a Sweet 16 owner for years (1990, 4.3 OMC Cobra). Looking at a Donzi Tender which is for sale. It needs quite a bit of work to get it back to original, and even more for show quality. I don't know much about them; does anyone know how rare these are? How many of these are out there? What sort of value do they have? How much is one with a V-8 & Mercruiser outdrive in rough condition worth? Any info you guys may be able to provide is greatly appreciated. You may respond here or to my e-mail. Thanks!!! (PS...if anyone knows of any old wooden hydroplane rotting away ANYWHERE, please let me know!)

Hmmm..define "Tender"; OK..it completely open, approx. 14 feet long, with a small center console & steering wheel mouted toward the back on the starboard side. It has a gauge panel mounted on the side, immediately to the right of the steering wheel. It has twin bucket seats. The stern has considerable tumble-hone to it, giving it an interesting classic look. There is a raised Stainless steel rail that wraps around the front third of the boat. It has a rear decklid which raises to reveal some sort of V-8. There are two exhaust ports straight out the back. I haven't been able to look at the boat while someone is on the property. Hope this helps!

I have never seen one of these. What is it called, and when were they built?

One in my backyard...

Built in 67 as far as I can tell. Conflicting accounts but seems to be only 9-15 in existance.

so Chris, how many Donzi's do you have? I think that would be a good project boat to run in the intercoastal.

it's got to be worth a few bucks given the few that are out there?

These boats must have an interesting design history. The more I see pics of them, the more I'm convinced they are scaled down versions of a Formula Jr hull. The scaled dimensions, tramsom arc, deck to hull seam, deadrise, tumblehome and strake patterns are too similar to be accidental, and I've never seen a Glastron design that is even close to the F-14 and Donzi 14.

These aren't Donzis, but I still like these tenders. Where would you want to go fish in the Giant? Spotted her in Freeport last month....

So, the boat I saw IS a Fisherman. It needs total restoration and a lot of work to make it like original. The 327 c.i. engine would have to be replaced with a 4cyl. Owner says there are soft spots in the floor as well. Original engine cover isn't there. He wants $5000 for it. I think he's way off...what do you guys think?
