Anyone ever had the shaft pull out of the mounting plate? Mine failed on Saturday, just twisted itself right out of the plate.. Luckily I noticed the temps climbing and shut her down...

What brand of pump?
Which boat?
I'm running a Johnson.....I'm not sure I know how that could happen with it.

It was a Johnson crank mount pump on my 1970 Donzi 351W. I don't know how it could happen either, usually those things are pressed on TIGHT! This one just spun right out...

I think I'd just snag a new one. Here in the Oelando area, they're about $130.00.

Jim am I reading correctly the shaft came loose from the crank plate? I have only see that once, the V rep said it was mis alignement due to tension from the wire wound hoses the guy installed, we changed out the hoses with fabric reinforced.

Jim, I had the same experience. This spring my pump had a slight leak at the seal so to be safe I replaced the pump. Ran the boat once with the new pump and the shaft broke free from the mounting plate. I noticed it when I went to flush the engine I couldn't get water to go through the engine. I never over heated, was running fine, it must of happen when I started the engine to flush her. Was your's a new pump too?

GEOO, it's about 2 years old. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one.

Moody, my boat came with a pump marked Indmar. (Looks exactly the same as the Johnson) It leaked around the seals so I put the Johnson on. I think I paid around a hundred bucks for it. The model number is 24228-1, or F5B9.

I've seen 55mph at 5100 rpm with my 23" Ultra.

Thanks MOP, I'll check the hoses. My pump wobbled quite a bit, so maybe that contributed to it. I've built some bushings to better locate it on the crank next time so maybe that'll help...

Thanks guys!

Not sure what type pump I have, it's mounted to a rectangular plate 4 long bolts and spacers one of which doubles as the upper alt. mount used jabsco impellor kit has a replacement, gasket, impellor and star shaped bushing for the connection to the motor
I have the replacement kit part number let me know if you need it

The pumps that Matty and Moody have sound like original HM they mounted the engine, pump and alterator all on a nice heavy piece, was a nice setup. The later pumps use the crank pulley bolts and have (or should have a stabilizer bracket), not a bad idea to also support the hoses so nothing wiggles around. The pump should look as if it is dead still when running. It is the easiest pump to service hands down.

Installed new pump with some little aluminum bushings I made. No wiggle at all. Works like a champ...

I have a 16 with the hm 302 also had a problem but not with the original jabsco pump...The three pertruding ears on the aluminum drive plate that bolts to the crank were wearing out because of the rubber spider gear deteriorating...This caused a metal to metal clicking sound Does any one know if this drive plate can be bought anyware ? I found the rubber spider gear in a pump shop...Tryed to buy the pump through jabsco they sold me a crank mounted pump that fell apart the same way your talking about....Mounting plate spun off...Like the original setup better it,s more solid joem

Got a 22" Ultra on ebay, then added an inch to it. Rpm's a little too high. Perfect now! Runs 54.7 at 5200rpm.
