We have a bunch of them out here, several in our yard. They had a few problems but seemed to have fixed them. One of the local Sea Tow boats had near 2000 hours on a pair 175's before they swapped to Yami's, the biggest problem is public opinion any boat is much harder to sell with Jrudes on it. The newer Bombardiers seem to be bullet proof, they are bringing out a new injection system that they feel will top Yami's HPDI which for now is King!

I know 2 people with 175 fichts and they have been horrible. Constant issues. Not to step on anyones toes but Yamahas reliability record speaks for itself. MOP makes a good point. You will have a much easier time selling a boat with a yamaha or merc than you will with Evinrudes. They have a very negative reputation in the boating community.

thanks for the info- he bought the maverick with a yamaha. it was a better boat for a better deal. anyway I think he will like it better with a v4 instead of a v6. too ass heavy. thanks again !!

no, he got a 17 master angler w/a 130 yamaha. all 03'. there is a 2001 18 master angler w/a 2003 175 evinrude for sale in the south fl boat trader and its a nice boat-he just decided against it because the other suited his needs better.

My neighbor had terrible luck with these engines and he bought them new. Both became broken and lucky he had after market insurance, it costs over $8,000 to repair them both. He traded the engines for the later model Bombardier engines and has had zero trouble with them.

There were people here (in Canada) that had the older Ficht motors and the best way to stay alive was to wear a helmut due to flying rotating assemblies...

Very bad press.

Good choice

For what it's worth I'm on my 2nd year with my 150 Yamaha 4 stroke. No problems, no issues just start it and watch it sip ;) fuel. One other nice benifit of the motor is the how quite it is. The discharge water is all you hear at Idle.
