View Full Version : This is COOL! and for sale!
It is a 21 Talon with a Allison 250 Turbine C-18 out of a bell helicoptor.
It drives a hyd. pump that in turn drives a hyd motor that turns a Bravo drive.
He is open to offers? Any idea what it is worth??
that is very cool, I bet it is LOUD!! Hydraukic pump is an interesting way of harnessing all those rpm, but sort of defeats the lightweight thing. I think hours on the turbine would have alot to do with value - really cool to see such outside of the box thinking actually built.
Hours on the turbine are 25

If it comes with a trolling motor for around the dock handling it is worth at least as much as your life insurance premium.

Useing a hydrostatic drive would make it reversible, and infinately variable in speed. It could be very easy to handle.
But it would be loud, if not the turbine exhaust, then the hydraulics.
Interesting solution.
Pretty simple. No cooling system, Loooooong hours between rebuilds.
Probably has horrendous fuel burn rate.

You are exacty correct! Fully reversible and very easy to handle
And VERY thirsty, two 35 gal fuel tanks,

Turbines GUZZZZLE fuel at idle..... at least they run on kerosene....

How many kerosene pumps do you find on the water?

I really dont think it was intended for crusing around......
Okay, so nobody has asked - how fast does it go?

It WOULD probably run on #2.
Yes it will run on many different things and mixtures. It runs 65MPH at HALF throttle. No one has had the ball$ to run it WOT. Even I am not THAT stooopid!:p

I'm just sitting here musing about how this works.....
turbines operate at a governed speed +/- a few thousand revs, and throttling is accomplished by increasing the load, i.e., speeding up the hydraulic motor, the turbine governor increases fuel flow to keep the engine speed constant. Keep increasing the load, (drive motor speed is increased some more) and more power is produced.
This goes on till the engine is putting out full power and the hyd. motor is spinning as fast as it will.
So instead of actually controlling the engine speed to go faster, you are actually feeding more power (hydraulic pressure and flow) to the drive motor, i.e., you're manipulating the hydrostatic transmission, not the turbine.
You would have to get your mind around that.
If any one has a price on that thing, I have a client who is a little sick.. He is having us sell his blown 21' Eliminator because he wants to go over 100mph easily.. We are currently watching for something sick for him!! Or if anyone you know is selling an over 21' tunnel with a bravo or arneson in good shape that could be a good blower engine boat let me know.. He would also entertain the Idea of possibly trading.. Thanks Jamie
