CT River Run 2005

We're going boating (again) , want to come ?

This is an informal gathering and cruise on the CT River .
There are no fees to attend as this is just a little pizza party .
We'll meet at Haddam Meadows State Park at 8 AM on Oct 15 (rain date Oct 16)
Come early so you can check out all the boats .

Drivers meeting at 9:45 .
If you are not familiar with the river you NEED to attend this !

There will be people circulating with clip boards .
Please give us your name , boat/motor , phone # , and email address when you arrive . I get at least a dozen requests for contact info each year and this will help people get in touch with one another . To streamline this maybe you could have a slip of paper or business card with this info on it .

Be prepared to cover 60 to 70 miles . Bring fuel if you need it (There is 89 octane available on the river) .

*Please Bring And Wear Your Vests* !

There is a 45 mph speed limit on the river .

There are about 5 "No Wake" zones we must respect .


We'll head north 15 miles to a beach in Cromwell and have pizza delivered .
There will be a bucket for donations for the pizza .
Any surplus will be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation .
Please supply your own beverages .

PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU ARE ATTENDING ( and how many with you ) BY OCT. 13 SO I KNOW HOW MUCH PIZZA TO ORDER . IF YOU DO NOT CALL OR EMAIL ME PLEASE BE PREPARED TO SUPPLY YOUR OWN FOOD .


* FYI * There are no "facilities" at the beach . There are "Port O Lets" at Haddam Meadows and other ramps along the way .

After lunch we head 15 miles north to Hartford then 30 miles south back to Haddam Meadows .
We'll cook some burgers and dogs at the ramp at the end of the day .

These motels are within a 1/4 mile of each other on Rt 372 .
Places to eat ;
Baci's (across from the Super 8) , Luna Pizza . Cromwell Diner , and a restaurant in the Crowne Plaza .

Directions To Haddam Meadows From The Motels
Go East on RT 372 .
Take a right onto RT 9 South
Then follow the directions below .

DIRECTIONS FROM HARTFORD AND NORTH

Take I-91 South

Take Exit 22 S to RT 9 South (a left lane exit)

Take Exit 10 off of RT 9 (Aircraft Rd)
At the light at the end of the ramp take a Right onto RT 154 South

Stay on RT 154 for 4.5 miles .

Take a left into Haddam Meadows State Park . (small sign)

Bear right and follow the access road to the ramp .


DIRECTIONS FROM THE SOUTH

Take I-95

Take Exit 69 onto RT 9 North .

Take Exit 7 off of RT 9 (This exit puts you on an access road a couple of miles long .

At the Light take a Right onto RT 154 North ("T" intersection)

Stay on RT 154 for 4.2 miles

Take a Right into Haddam meadows State Park (small sign)

Bear right and follow the access road to the ramp .

We said we're going boating , Mother nature says no freakin' way .
I just got back from looking at the river and it hasn't receded at all .
I talked to a meteorologist and he said he wouldn't make plans for this weekend .
So..... The 2005 CT River Run will be postponed .
It will probably be moved to Oct 22 , or possibly Oct 29 . This will be decided by Fri. , Oct 14.
People who made reservations online at the Crowne Plaza should be able to cancel or change the arrival date . You can call 1-800-227-6963 for their corporate office . If that doesn't work call the hotel in Cromwell at 860-635-2000 . If you have any problems give me a call Rich @ 860-223-6754 or 860-214-1667 .

I'll split the gas with you if you need a co-pilot. I have the lifeline vest so we can cruise. The river has dropped a little but is still running real fast. Good thing it is scheduled for the 29th, the river is still filled with logs and other nasty stuff.

I live two minutes from Haddam Meadows...maybe you and Ken could stop by after the scream and fly and we can share a few beers and grill some chow if you would both like. You guys could check out my old 16' that I just winterized :banghead:

Perhaps Cliff & Brenden could join us?
