Check www.NADAguides.com (http://www.nadaguides.com/) . The earliest year DONZI listed is 1972. Maybe someone else knows more.

There will be many responses to this one from the real experts (I am not one of those), but the earliest Donzi of which I am personally aware were built in 1964. We have several 1966 Classic owners on this board. I see stuff on this boat that looks way wrong to me, but at the same time, an early boat may have had anything.

Mark, I think what he meant was that NADA's earliest listing of a Donzi model is 72. We all know they have been around since the mid 60's. After seeing the ad though...they definately weren't around in 62.....

not only that the transom is rounded and curved down. and the bulge in the middle bottom. not to even mention they didn't make a sweet sixteen back then it was a ski sportser. i would say it's not a donzi but maybe it's a prototype that don made before he opened donzi.

NOT a Donzi !
1964 First Year for Donzi

The first DONZI, a 28 foot, deep-vee was designed by Jim Wynne in 1964.
Don won Miami-Nassau in 1965 but sold the company in 1966.

From Model List Info
The very first boat to wear the Donzi name was a little 16 foot runabout called the Ski Sporter. Its design layout, was based on an earlier wooden racing boat known as the 17 foot Wyn-Mil II. The Wyn-Mill II was later developed in to a production boat all on its own called the Formula Jr. two years after the introduction of the 16. Although the Formula Jr. and the 16 are very simular in design, they do not share any dimentions and should be considered completely different boats, derived from completely different proto-types. Designed by Jim Wynne and Walt Walters, the Ski Sporter was introduced in 1964.

looks like a formula JR to me... that someone has hacked the tub to make a 2 + 2 configuration out of vs the 1 + 3...

Definitely not a Donzi.... I am not too sure its a Formula Jr. either.... weird looking if you ask me... the strakes just don't seem right.

i would coin it: some body had a boat that they found that needed to be restored had know idea what it was. he asked somebody "looks like a donzi"
he then painted it and painted donzi on it then bought a stearing wheel with donzi on it. the only real way to ever know would be thru the H.I.N.

That is a very re-worked and altered Formula Jr. Deck is re-worked, transom is re-worked, but the lines are FJ. So it is a 66 or later. According to Mike and Brownie, no FJs left the barn as Donzies. To bad really, its a better boat than the 16. And in my opinion, it is better than an 18 in its hull design. You can not roll this thing. Even if you try.

We have hashed this boat and idea before, twice. It has been for sale for about 2 years. There are previous posts regarding it from long ago...

B: Official first showing of a standard Donzi, 1964 Jacksonville, Fl Boat Show. I took it there myself. Average redneck Jacksonville comment: "What the heallll is that?
