Speed "vs" torque "vs" RPM I am findind is a mixed bag, spinning then engine faster does not alway produce the best speed.
When I put the Bravo on the 22 the only prop I had was my 21 Mirage left over from the Alpha, it turned 5600 and 63.2. I put Mikes (Trueser) 23 cleaver on it went 65.3 5100, big drop in RPM but good speed gain. Over the weekend I put a 23 Quick Silver on, lost 2 on top but gained near 2 at cruise. Gaining at cruise to me is a plus, I am thinking about a 23 4 blade next. The cam that I am running peaks its torque at about 4800, I think if I can get the R's closer to that I will get it to do the best it can the way it is set up now. The motor is very torqie, when the BH was on it, it would plane of just fine with 5 on board and does the same with 6 now. Any thoughts appreciated.

Geo spin this one slower and I go faster!

Phil,
You should prop @ or slightly above Peak HP. You should cruise @ or close to peak torque, (most efficient rpm for Motor).

George my proplem is I only have a Desk Top Dyno done by Jamie, it came up with 430 torque and 370 HP. Though the motor is over built the cam is quite mild, I am pretty happy with the results so far pretty decent speed for a SB 22 plus excellent economy. But winter is coming may investigate what kind of gains to expect with a better cam.

I've been wondering about this,....

my peak HP is at 5500rpm, is there any ill effect turning an outdrive that fast? I know the engine can handle it, but wonder about the drive.

my peak torque is at 4500rpm

This is very good information for me, thanks!!
