I see Dubya has played the "blame game" himself and now he and jerk.... err Chertoff have their scape goat. FEMA director Brown. Good job Bushy, you won't even let your own appointee "The Horse Whisperer" (Director of FEMA mind you) run the recovery effert of the largest natural disaster in US history, but he's still the director of FEMA? Yeah, that makes alot of friggin sense.

Aaron Broussard, the Jefferson Parish president said. "Take whatever idiot they have at the top, give me a better idiot. Give me a caring idiot. Give me a sensitive idiot. Just don't give me the same idiot." Amen!

Brown is more than a scape goat. He misrepresented his credentials. He should be fired, and whoever checked his background should be sacked as well.

New Orleans

In case you aren't familiar with how our government is SUPPOSED to work.

The chain of responsibility for the protection of the citizens in New Orleans is:

1. The Mayor
2. The New Orleans director of Homeland Security (a political appointee of
the Governor who reports to the Governor).
3. The Governor
4. The Head of Homeland Security
5. The President
What did each do?

1. The mayor, with 5 days advance, waited until 2 days before he announced a mandatory evacuation (at the behest of the President). The he failed to provide transportation for those without transport even though he had hundreds of buses at his disposal.

2. The New Orleans director of Homeland Security failed to have any plan for a contingency that has been talked about for 50 years. Then he blames the Feds for not doing what he should have done. (So much for political appointees)

3. The Governor, despite a declaration of disaster by the President 2 DAYS BEFORE the storm hit, failed to take advantage of the offer of Federal troops and aid. Until 2 DAYS AFTER the storm hit.

4. The Director of Homeland Security positioned assets in the area to be ready when the Governor called for them.

5. The President urged a mandatory evacuation, and even declared a disaster State of Emergency, freeing up millions of dollars of federal assistance, should the Governor decide to use it.

Oh and by the way, the levees that broke were the responsibility of the local landowners and the local levee board to maintain, NOT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

The disaster in New Orleans is what you get after decades of corrupt (democrat) government going all the way back to Huey Long.

Funds for disaster protection and relief have been flowing into this city for decades, and where has it gone, but into the pockets of the politicos and their friends.

Decades of socialist government in New Orleans has sapped all self reliance from the community, and made them dependent upon government for every little thing.

Political correctness and a lack of will to fight crime have created the single most corrupt police force in the country, and has permitted gang violence to flourish.

The sad thing is that there are many poor folks who have suffered and died needlessly because those that they voted into office failed them.

For those who missed item 5 (where the President's level of accountability is discussed), it is made more clear in a New Orleans Times-Picayune article dated August 28 below:

************************************************** ***
NEW ORLEANS (AP) ' In the face of a catastrophic Hurricane Katrina, a mandatory evacuation was ordered Sunday for New Orleans by Mayor Ray Nagin.
Acknowledging that large numbers of people, many of them stranded tourists, would be unable to leave, the city set up 10 places of last resort for people to go, including the Super dome.

The mayor called the order unprecedented and said anyone who could leave the city should. He exempted hotels from the evacuation order because airlines had already canceled all flights.

Gov. Kathleen Blanco, standing beside the mayor at a news conference, said President Bush called and personally appealed for a mandatory evacuation for the low-lying city, which is prone to flooding. (emphasis mine) The ball was placed in Mayor Nagin's court to carry out the evacuation order. With a 5-day heads-up, he had the authority to use any and all services to evacuate all residents from the city, as documented in a city emergency preparedness plan. By waiting until the last minute, and failing to make full use of resources available within city limits, Nagin and his administration screwed up.

Mayor Nagin and his emergency sidekick Terry Ebbert have displayed lethal, mind boggling incompetence before, during and after Katrina.

As for Mayor Nagin, he and his profile in pathetic leadership police chief should resign as well. That city's government is incompetent from one end to the other. The people of New Orleans deserve better than this crowd of clowns is capable of giving them.

If you're keeping track, these boobs let 569 buses that could have carried 33,350 people out of New Orleans 'in one trip' get ruined in the floods.

Whatever plan these guys had, it was a dud. Or it probably would have been if they'd bothered to follow it.

This nation and the essence of what makes it great and somewhat unique. Dates back to our founding. Rugged individualism, self reliance, self determination, and the ability of the individual to rise to the level of his or her abilities unimpeded by a central government.

We aught to fear the concept of a central government taking responsibility for the welfare of the individual. So mutch as we would fear the federal government deciding to what extent we may rise in society despite given ability.

The state of LA was apparently offered overwhelming aid and assistance prior to the storm striking. Evidently, as supported by published facts...They declined the assistance. THAT WAS PRETTY DUMB,,,EH...

The display of humanity wallowing in self pity, widely broadcast by the left leaning media, does not help to create a nation of unity. It promotes political infighting and the 'blame game'... Think back to this nation during WWII. We won that struggle, and won the admiration of the embattled world, by coming together with a united voice based on reason and common good. Formed by a people who did not ask what the government could do for them, but what they could do for their country.

We, the people... Need to accept personal responsibility for our circumstance. Do, recall the cold war. Fought not against a people. The Russian people are as family loving and goodhearted as the American people en mass... The war was fought, and won... against an ideology. That of governmental control over the day to day lives of its citizens. The right for a brute force, to decide the fate of the masses. {Lest we forget, saddam fit this camp}...

The states fought long and hard to have independent regulation and local control from a centralized government. Let’s not be so quick to forget these simple truths. We may find them to be the root of the present state of affairs...

Best to all,
Chili

I'm not a Brown supporter, anyone who screws up needs to be held accountable.
However, last year here in Florida (remember last year? you know four hurricanes in a row?) Brown did a good job. There were no complaints. Other than perhaps in some cases they were too generous.

Wasn't it 31 million that Fema was defrauded of in Florida last year? Fema is turning into just another pork barrel for the politicos. Perhaps they should disband it now, before it turns into another IRS monster.

DITTO: I could NOT have said it better myself. Thank you both for the last two posts. I PRAY that some people can Read.. and sit back for a minute and "Think". Touchy-Feely is nice at a flower show, but it doesn't solve problems. Recovering from a hurricane requires thinking. (OH Wait: We need to hold hands first.)

Little bits and pieces of information are coming out, but one needs to listen and put the pieces together. Try doing that WITHOUT the MEDIA telling you how to think. What makes Them any smarter than you are???

If you made up your mind ahead of time..ie: "I hate Bush".... Well. What can I say? http://www.donzi.net/ubb/confused.gif

Perspective... on Friday night, Max Mayfield from the National Hurricane Center called President Bush himself, I believe after he had called Nagin and Nagin rebuffed him. Max strongly asserted to the President of an unprecedented disaster in the making, the NOAA buoy 240 miles south of NO dissappeared, after rising up 68' in waves above normal sea level, that's a 40' surge, and 28' waves, in layman terms... .... Bush called both Nagin and Blanco himself Friday night, they BOTH told GW that they would handle things thermselves, as they saw fit, and they were NOT going to declare any emergency for the time being... GW got concerned, called his tight group in, and for the first time since, I think 1906, they were going to exercise power to override the state of LA for their ineptness... Bush slept on this, and then called Nagin on Saturday morning again, strongly emphasizing Nagin's stupidity and the need to announce a mandatory evacuation right F****** now... Nagin got on TV then right??? I think Bush then called Blanco again stressing the urgency of things, and Blanco called in her tightwads, who convinced her it was political suicide for her to agree with GW, and she should continue to holdout no matter what... which she did until about 4 days after the storm passed by... by this time both Blanco and Nagin had blasted the government for the lacky handling of THEIR problem. If you watched the video of when GW was received by Nagin on his second visit, it is VERY CLEAR that GW absolutely blasts Nagin for his stupidity and even holds up 2 fingers more than once to ermphasize how many days Nagin had that he slept away... Nagin didn't say one word in return, he knew he blew it.... the pic''s of the submerged buses tells it all.... also, paragraph one of Nagins written responsibility as Mayor states emphatically that he is to USE public and school buses to evacuate citizens, at all costs... he didn't do ****... they all got trashed up to their steering wheel, or higher. The 596 buses mentioned do NOT included the transit city buses either. They had enough school buses alone, to move 12,000 people on each short trip... including transit buses they could have moved over 100,000 people in 12 hours time.... but oh noooooo, they just parked them. IMO, Nagin should be held legally accountable for reckless duty of his office, fired immediately. Blanco should be impeached as well. Responsibility STARTS at the street level, then county/city, then state, then federal. What a bunch of meatheads.... Mississippi has more dead in their whole state than NO has in one city, what does that tell you??? it tells me that the governor of Mississippi had his **** together, that's what. Look at the wipe out devastation of the Miss. coast and tell me who REALLY has a problem tonight... JH

Perspective...

Jim,

You can type 'til your fingers go raw, but it's a lost cause. The "Blame Bush Blather" will neither abate nor will the blatherers ever make sense.
