:frown: I just got a recall notice on my '05 22C. It seems the Bravo X drive may have a back cover-shift link interference problem. It says not to drive the boat until the insp./repair is done. My local dealers are backed up with work. So I have a new Donzi and I can't drive it? I don't think so! If someone could post MerCruiser service bulletin 2005-01 or Mercury Racing bulletin 2005-02 maybe I could check this myself.:eek!:

Carl do you have a the newer sloped back X like in the link below or the pretty much vertical and flat backed model?

Carl that is a pic of my drive, it has about 20 hours on it and shifts fine. When I first got it I suspected possible shift issues and pulled the back off only to find it was notheing like my Blackhawk drive. I could see the completely different shift mech and the shifter mech is now in the oil not like the dry hole of the old style drives. How many hours on yours?

40 hours and it's always shifted smooth. You may be getting a recall notice too.:frown:

We haven't recieved anything for a recall on the Bravo X drives? and we are on the phone everyday with Merc. I will check today, it may be on specific models they came out with thats why you were notified! So far we have 4 22 Classics with the new drives.

i received my letter in the mail about 4 months ago. took it to the merc dealer and swapped out cover. still waiting for "X" decal for the back. seems they don't send decal w/ the cover. companies do things in such backward ways, it never ceases to amaze me. no problems before switch and none since change over.

What does the "X" stand for?
I have a Bravo1 on my 06 18C. I was told it is a new design but it has a flat top on it. (see link). Someone at Corsa told me that Merc started making the finned tops for a short time then went back to the flat tops again.

It appears as if it is a problem has to do with the cover, I had mine off it showed of no interference with he internals. A couple have turned up on Ebay, could be they were swapped out for steering connecters or some sleeze is selling the bad ones.

Bald Eagle looking at your drive it except for the top cap looks just like my X, maybe that is the new standard Bravo 1 and not an X. The finned top cap is a much beefier piece that also provides some upper gear case cooling. The difference in upper gear case temperature between my Blackhawk and my new X after a hard run is more than noticeable, The BH feels very warm to the touch and gets a white film on it the X gets bearly warm and stays bright and shinny.

MOP:

Is the "X" the diesel version or just the model that had the finned top?
Since I'm running a Bravo1 on a 6.2 320 in an 18C I wasn't too concerned about the temp. I'm putting a HALO shower on this weekend any way. I sometimes do get a very thin light film on the head but our water in White Lake, MI is silty so I don't think its from heat, or just the water. I'll reach back and feel it after a run. I haven't heard anything about a recall on my model - Yet.

The finned top is on all 2005 and newer Bravo drives regardless of model... ie Bravo X, Bravo diesel, Bravo III or Bravo XR .

My 06 Bravo-1 has a flat top. See photo in above reply. It's my understanding they went back to the flat top.
