I just replaced the quadrajet on my 454 powered '87 Hornet III with a new quadrajet. It fired right up, but is blowing black smoke from the exhaust. Could this be a jetting problem? How can I fix it?

that is an indication it's running rich check that the choke is opening. .or the mixture screws may need adjusting. see if the old jets are the same number

sounds like the power valve is opening.... this can happen if your vacuum signal is too low, maybe due to a previous and more lumpy cam change.

if its running rich, increase the RPM quickly and it should help open up the carb and let it breath. My 5.0l does that sometimes.
