How come my 1970 Donzi 16 has no hull / serial nbr ? Checked faq's , didn't see any mention of hull numbers . Boat is completely original with Buick 225 v6 and Volvo 250 . Thinking about swapping out v6 for a v8 , or just pumping up the v6 . Any thoughts ?
Thanks in advance ...................................... Doug.:checkered

mandatory HIN were put into effect in 73 so before that time they were written in black marker up under the bow eye back, seat area, back of dash
check out the model list it gives a great detail on the 16

Hey 409,

--------What proof do you have that your boat is a 1970? I think there is a very good chance that your boat is quite a bit older than you think. That Buick V6 wasnt a popular combo and was rarely chosen after about 1966 or so. Also, I believe if your Volvo drive was an original in 1970 it would be a 270, not a 250. What does everyone else think?..........Bill S

Bill
You're right , i have little proof of year other than from previous owner stating it's a '70 , also when i pulled the engine and dismantled it the date code(casting code) on the under side of the intake ended in '0' , which coincides with 225 v6 production, i just rechecked the drive , it's a 250 . Wish i had more info , i really like this boat . If i repowered this boat , how much power is the volvo 250 able to handle ??
Thanks again ........... Doug

409,

things to look at when trying to make an ID on an older 16

vent arrangements: clam shells or not and how many, vent under the rear seat like an HVAC vent, rear lourver vent on transom, mine is titled as a 68 and no hull id was found by previous owners, when deck was split hull numbers were found by the bow eye and written on the back of the dash
16-410 which makes mine a 67, also mine came with a 289 and an eaton drive but was repowered in aug 0f 69 with a 250 and 351w as were many earlier boats when more reliable drives and more hp was available, I know 2 boats all original 72 18' with a 250 and a 72 cig with a 270
get up under the deck with a strong light and check out the bow eye and the back of the dash

my 250 took 300hp for 32 years
