OK all you Florida peeps. We are going to the Glen again next Sat. FloridaGator, can you go? Cuda if I remeber correctly every other weekend it's a little difficult for you to get out, I understand. But Fishboy and Budman, get your arses out there. Gcarter, would be nice to see you guys as well....

Title should read 8/6 (This Saturday)

Yeah, next weekend we have Kyle. I guess I could go without my swabbie, but I probably don't know how to run the boat by myself anymore. :(

I should be able to since I didn't make it there today. We just went to Hooters for lunch then out to Anclote Key for a littel while.

I need to find a new shift/throttle lever for mine before I committ.

I'll have Debbie call the home where Kyle stays tomorrow. She can probably get the weekend off. We've been picking him up on Friday nights instead of Saturday mornings, and the home gets paid by how much time Kyle stays there. They had a substatial amount of money deducted from the regular money they usually get the last couple of months.

I can supply both. Do NOT rely on your brother's directions. I think he ended up in Sanford when he came here.

Give us a call.

Yep, I think there's a pretty good chance we could make it.
But I have a question, CG, since you had that courtesy inspection, what were they looking for?

ChromeGorilla
08-01-2005, 06:02 PM
They were very friendly. Talked about the Donzi for a few minutes then asked if they could see 4 life vests (I had 4 on board) 1 type V throwable and the fire extiguisher. Then I was on my way.

I really hope you guys can make it George!
In need some more pics of that Minx!

where exactly is silver glen?
It in Lake George, which is really a fat spot on the St John's River. Lake George is about three miles north of Astor, then about three or four miles northwest to the Glen.

slownsx
08-01-2005, 07:11 PM
so its like northwest of Orange City? What time do you guys usually get out there?

Cuda
08-01-2005, 07:21 PM
From Orange City, I'd go up 17/92 to Hwy 44, go west to the river. There is a ramp there at a park. We should be at that ramp around 10am. You can follow us up if you want to.

From Lakeland, I would go East on I-4 to 33, go North to 50. At 50, jog West to 19 (it's only a few blocks). Go North on 19 to 441 through Howie and Tavares. Jog East on 441 to 19 North through Eustis. In Eustis, you can either go East on 44 to Deland or you can continue North to 40 and go East to Astor, and there is a ramp there also.
It sounds convoluted, but it would probably save you 30 miles.

ChromeGorilla
08-01-2005, 08:48 PM
Here is a map slownsx. The yellow arrow points to where the Glen is. The orange arrow I believe is the ramp Cuda is talking about. Palatka is just off the map to the north and You can see I-4 on the bottom right. Gcarter is correct, half way inbetween the 2 arrows is HWY 40 in Astor. I believe there is a ramp.

Cuda, is the ramp right on 44?

Do you know about how long, time wise, from Wildwood? I think it is longer travel time for me to go to Deland but, I wouldn't mind the run up the river.

Anyone else plan to meet up with Cuda and run?

I think it's 56 miles from Wildwood. That's the way I always went to Tampa when we first moved here. Pretty much a straight shot, and I guarantee it's the closest launch on the river from there.

Cuda
08-01-2005, 09:32 PM
Yes, the ramp is right on 44 where it crosses the river. Big park, you can't miss it.

Yeah, according to Mapquest, Astor would be quicker from here. Not by much though.

The decision will be made when I see what the weather will be like. If storms are expected I may tow to Astor.

I don't trust the forcasts anymore. 2 weekends ago they say 60% chance of rain and theewkend will be a wash out. Not a single drop and it was perfect. Last weekend they said lots of rain all weekend. Went to the Glen on Sat. all day not a drop on us. i should be a meteorologist, get paid the bux and be totaly wrong and no one cares...

Not a chance it's faster. Trust me, I've run every possible route around here.

Good point about Astor being closer if you have to get out of the rain, because there is absolutely nothing between Deland and Astor on the river. That's the charm of that ride. :)

Last year, I had to run from the Glen all the way back to Deland in my fishboat, going through some real hard rain and lightning. :shocking:

We got caught once in a bad storm on Lake George. One boat had the entire wiring harness fried from a direct lightning hit. One jet ski was messed up. Another boat took an indirect hit knocking the passenger to the floor.

Why yes I did. Not that it made a helluva lot of difference. My buddy was trying to hide behind the windshield, leaned over to get out of the rain. The problem was, he leaned into my throttle. :(

Btw, a bimini is perfectly acceptable on fishboats, cruisers, trawlers, and craft of that ilk. Just not on a performance boat! :splat:

Forgive me for being lazy and not reading the above. Now, with that said, are you all meeting up Friday and boating into Saturday?

I have good intentions on meeting up with everyone, but first have to get the Rabco fixed, (one dead cylinder, good compression on all 6, think I have a bad coil, have new one in hand, just have to get the guys @ work to tell me which cyl. isn't firing) and line up my honey (I'm working on the one that will make me an "honest man.") If I can pull those two things off and the forecast is good, I just might make it. Oh, also have to close a nice deal on Thursday so the boss won't give me too much heat for taking Saturday off :)

Still looking good for me. I would love to run up from Deland but every day I look, the storms seem to be worse in the middle of the state.

How many are running from Deland? Is everyone stopping for lunch on the way up, or should we pack a lunch?

We bring a loaf of bread and a cooler with lunch meat and cheese and mustard. We just make sandwiches at the Glen. Also there is a boat that goes around all day that sells hot dogs, boiled peanuts, ice and sno cones.

Just FYI...the last 2 times I went to the Glen it was 60% chance.....didn't get a drop on us. Usually when the rain rolls though around 3 ish most peeps in the Glen batten down the hatches, put coverrs on and wait the 30 minutes for it to pass. Thats what we did a few weeks ago. Was totaly worth it not trying to outrun the storm. After the shower was hot as hell and got 2 more hours of great weather. But we won't have to worry about rain cuz it's gonna be perfect! :crossfing :wavey: :garfield:

Well, this puts me in a very serious quandry, because if it rains even for a little bit and I put up the Bimini and windscreen when it starts to rain, poor Cuda is gonna have a mental fit. I guess I better raft up at the opposite end from him for all of our sakes.
Princess Julie is a solid GO for throttle up for Saturday with me, so we will be headed on down from Julinton Creek about 8:45-ish, attempting to pick up Sir Chromey in Palatka.

If we show up Saturday morning, let's say around 9 AM, where should we put in/meet everybody? I'd like to be somewhat close to the Glen.

I have no clue where to go once on the water, but can probably figure it out with a road map and handheld GPS.

I'm still 50/50 if I'll show. Have to wire in a kill switch, remove the Rabco from a free, ROTTING steel trailer, water test her (although she's hitting on all 6 now) and put her on the Concept trailer. ...never a dull moment around here...

"All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." LOL

No worries, I don't have a bimini either ;) Been known to fly the rainbow color picnic table umbrella or "Castaway shade" in the rod holder........LOLOLOLOLOL

The closest place is Astor, where Hwy 40 crosses the river. Then just head north three miles on the river, when you enter Lake George, head northwest. You'll see all the boats heading there or coming from there.

ChromeGorilla
08-04-2005, 08:26 PM
Nate, launch in Astor at HWY way 40 go north on the St Johns. When you enter lake follow markers in a straight line till you get to the red and green markers at N29 14.354 W81 35.223. ( Circle 1 on the map). Next turn NW and head towards the mouth of the run. This is N29 14.814 W81 37.495 (circle 2 on map). When you get to the mouth there is a no wake sign and white stake denoting somewhat of a channel. Yes it is shallow in here but nothing to worry about. You will see bottom but don't be worried. 40' cruisers make it in no problem. The channel is marked in the run with red and green bouys. Any questions on Sat. Call me. 904-535-4349 Scott. I will come out and find you if need be. Pretty easy run from Astor. You should be good. like Cuda said, follow all the boats heading into LG as the Glen is pretty much the only destination.
