I took the trim sender off. that turned out to be a can of worms, the screws are corroded so ,and ah yah well you know "they broke off". wich means drilling and tapping is now required. any way. there is'nt any thing under the cap except 2 wires . was there suppose to be something there that may have disintigrated?????????????????????????????????????

ps they want $81.00 for the trim sender

The other current thread on this subject has a pretty good description about how they work. They usually aren't repairable. They also aren't easy to replace. Take a look on eBay, sometimes they're a little cheaper.
To replace, remove the drive and belhousing, then you can get to the wires where they go through the gimbal housing. The new harness has a conically shaped built in seal. This is a good time to replace or re-seal the bellows.

Good info here:

Although the gauge sender is different from the limit switch, I believe they are sold as a set and the replacement instructions are the same.
