my power trim gauge maxes out as soon as i power up the key. i assume that the gage is to indicate where the lower unit is in its travel. is there an indicator switch that i missed putting on the out drive?

The trim gauge signal is generated on the starboard side of the gimbal ring. This sender is adjustable and there's a procedure for setting it. Also it may be shorting out. Sometimes they can be cleaned and greased.
thanks G: i'll clean it out and look in the book to see if they have the adj. procedure.
joe.
PS: George how'd you make out on the rolling in your minx?
I took mine out for the week on vacation. a little costly for fuel but ran great .still runs a little hot. but i've been found the a sloww cool down @ 1200 rpm keeps her at 160. althoe when i go to shut her off she getts a little pre ignition. and i'll pop her back on and idle for a minute.
